Improving the light-harvesting of amorphous silicon solar cells with photochemical upconversion - Energy & Environmental Science (RSC Publishing)
New trick for solar cells, upconverting red/IR photons that are not captured in a PV cell and pass through by combining two photons and turning it into a single yellow photon, and sending that back into the solar cell for capture. Kind of like a frequency doubler crystal. But this seems to be a reflector architecture of sorts, so that means the red/IR that passed though probably heated the solar cell already before it even reaches the upconverter reflector, as opposed to a frequency doubler crystal which is on the front end usually.
