Whoa, AES S-box weakness found. This might be a major vulnerability... except we've been punked by the author. Appendix B notes the KALE transform looks equivalent to AES, so could be substituted into an AES S-box lookup table but actually causing a massive vulnerability.

Single-Step Extraction | OriginOil - Breakthrough Algae Oil Technology
Interesting take on the algae lipid recovery process, similar to GM algae that excrete oil, since both processes use a tank with surface skimming for recovery. Basically a wet recovery process that skips the drying process of conventional biomass lipid recovery. Still kills the little guys, but you would end up doing that if biomass was a production target anyways, but that introduces the issues of whether or not the energy costs of drying are transferred to the biomass or should be charged to the lipids, and there is a secondary concern of what sort of changes occur in the biomass, that could potentially make it unattractive as a product for specific industries (maybe pharmaceuticals/nutriceuticals might be out, but straight animal feed and biomass feedstock should be alright)

Direct full server mineral oil immersion cooling is now possible with appropriate power supplies and SSD hard disks (rotating hard disks are actually air breathing). These guys are packing it as a 42U rack lying on it's back to allow easier single server removal, though frankly that would make a hell of a mess and it would be better to go with monolithic sealed units that fail in place...

Osaka Gas reveals green innovation : Business : DAILY YOMIURI ONLINE (The Daily Yomiuri)
Seems Osaka Gas built some sort of compact natural gas/well gas reforming plant to produce naptha. I guess the market is for wells that can't justify a LNG FPSO to capture well gases. There's a certain attractiveness to doing something with the gas rather than flaring it, though making naptha at first glance seemed an odd choice until you consider the storage requirements compared to LNG/CNG, which is probably where the quoted 90% plant size reduction comes from. Obviously since you are not doing LNG, it isn't economical to capture rare gases like helium since you don't have ASU equipment.
