Double-negative-index ceramic aerogels for thermal superinsulation | Science
Weird boron nitride aerogel. Good repeatable crush resistance and extreme temperature swing fracture resistance. Weird in that slightly squeezing it in one direction causes it to compact orthogonally.

Non‐Volatile Silicon Photonics Using Nanoscale Flash Memory Technology - Grajower - - Laser & Photonics Reviews - Wiley Online Library
MONOS allows using conventional NAND flash CMOS manufacturing techniques to yield potentially terahertz speed circuits. Heat is probably still a problem, but this may make chip internal optics easier, as well the mentioned filter/switch/modulator/resonater/laser optics applications

Transparent polycrystalline cubic silicon nitride : Scientific Reports
Neat, but requires twice the pressure to make compared to diamond, then again it can work in a hotter regime. Good for engine optical monitoring ports?
