MyRocks | A RocksDB storage engine with MySQL | MyRocks
Using RocksDB with compression as the underlying engine under MySQL, replacing InnoDB. Apparently half the size, and 10x less writes for SSD friendliness

For people who like to deploy websites via GIT, this might be the PaaS solution for you. Basically it allows one click deployment of sites from GIT repositories, and it handles the dirty work of deploying underlying server software and scripting frameworks.

To up the speed of MySQL bottlenecked websites, you generally shard like mad and try to use SSD's and a bunch of RAM. These guys are going straight for the throat and going pure in-memory only optimized, but speak MySQL on the wire for compatibility with existing MySQL websites. If you are wedded to MySQl, for some reason don't want to or can't use PostgreSQL, or don't feel like getting on a noSQL database due to lack of general library support, this might be the ticket for you. Claiming 30x speedup over conventional MySQL, and largely based on the assumption of building out a cloud of high memory VPS servers (which is easier to arrange than VPS backed by SSD). You might even be able to eliminate a memcached layer if you're lucky.

Welcome to Cloud Foundry
VMware taking the PaaS fight open source (similar to DeltaCloud and OpenStack) and trying to go toe-to-toe with Google Appengine and Microsoft Azure. Gives access to Ruby/Rails/Sinatra, Java, Node.js, Grails, and other JVM frameworks. The open source aspect is what they call Cloud Foundry Micro Cloud, which is a locally deployable instance, potentially to allow hybrid Public/Private PaaS cloud setups, as well as all local setups too. They also cover databases too, such as MySQl, MongoDB and Redis.
