CSIRO tech accelerates hydrogen vehicle future - CSIRO
New membrane for extracting hydrogen from ammonia, which allows a hydrogen logistics train where hydrogen is made/stored as ammonia, bulk transport is done as liquid ammonia, and converted back to hydrogen at a local fill station for local storage in a high pressure tank, for eventual use in fuel cell vehicles.

Programmable CNT based separation filters, possible basis for molecular manufacturing. At least it seems to deal with gas/liquids easily enough in theory for basic molecular synthesis of simple compounds. So could go from stripping CO2 and water from the atmosphere to make simple synthetic fuels like ethanol

Low cost plasma membrane reactor to efficiently convert ammonia to hydrogen
Using a plasma field between an iron tube and palladium foil tube, ammonia can be broken down to nitrogen and hydrogen, with the hydrogen pulled through the palladium foil efficiently, resulting in very high hydrogen gas purity separation. Process is low temperature and pressure as well, though the palladium foil probably isn't cheap. Effectively an ammonia fuel reformer for a hydrogen fuel cell, allowing storage of low pressure ammonia as fuel.

Interesting idea of feeding effluent/wastewater/sewage into ocean floating clear tubes to make algae and clean the water. End run around the issues of fertilizer/nutrient feeds for algae production, algae growth medium location, facility structure cost and location, and nicely deals with the wastewater output of sewage treatment facilities.

Oxygen-separation membranes could aid in CO2 reduction - MIT News Office
Interesting possible combustor design for oxyfuel plants, where a combustor wrapped in this ceramic membrane does heat accelerated oxygen ion transport across the membrane from the air side to the combustor interior. How useful this is for regular oxygen separation is up for debate though, since this seems to want a direct heat source which would be difficult to arrange for a traditional ASU, thus pushing you to cryogenic air separation techniques. Hrm, I wonder if the flow rates and weight would be attractive to aircraft jet engine combustor applications, maybe extending up into a competitor for LACE?

Leaky graphene oxide lets water pour through
Whoa, this stops helium leakage?!? Can we say rocket tank liners anyone? Especially around welds. Also has applications for filtering water out of stuff, such as desalination reverse osmosis membranes.
