Backpack power generator that recovers walking energy of a sort by attaching ratcheting cables to the back of your shoes. Which means this backpack is effectively trying to trip you by pulling your feet out from under you, if it pulls too hard. Not suitable for hiking through thick underbrush. I wonder how annoying the cable tension is on walking gait/posture. That said, it seems to have pretty good performance as it's effectively using leg extension for power (much like a land rowing machine)

Basically, this is a squeezing based power generator, on the small scale (nanogenerator). Possibly very well adapted to immediate connection with nearby/embedded capacitors to collect energy as a first stage, before transferring to long term larger storage.

Wow, that's actually pretty smart, if the local energy generation and storage for the periodic stimulus firing is sufficient and it isn't a large device to stuff into someones chest. Also much simpler and potentially more failsafe than say a blood sugar powered fuel cell.

Interesting that they go with doping the inner layer of carbon fiber with magnetic particles, rather than going with dedicated permanent magnets. There must be significant structural advantages to accept a serious loss in magnetic strength in the inner motor. That, or they are doing interesting tricks with the stator.

It's similar to stuff like Beacon Power UPS flywheels, but it extends the shaft outwards and does magnetic coupling to drive the flywheel. You take a hit in efficiency for a gain in no sliding seals to keep the vacuum. I suppose this is a valid alternative for mechanical energy storage and recovery, but I wonder how much slip there is in the magnetic coupling. For a flywheel UPS storage battery application, this is somewhat attractive as it keeps the hot motor/generator outside the vacuum chamber so it is easier to cool.
