MOzilla is partnering with Scroll a bit, since modern internet journalism has a broken business model dependent on surveillance capitalism advertising. Whether this will become a viable alternative is open to debate. But some sort of microtipping system, and not wholesale subscription/patron based financial support seems like a more viable ecosystem, if anyone could ever figure out a viable microtipping architecture compatible with existing currency...

Introducing Subscribe with Google
Google is trying to tame the subscription content market by having a single payment platform. Sadly not a per-article micro-payment/micro-donation platform.

FACTA online
Looks like Facta is trying to punch through the prestige/language barrier limiting business reporting from japan. Smart to use paypal for payment. However, they will have to severely step up their game to global standards. Considering the quality of the english used in this subscription notice alone though, I have a feeling they might blow their 15 minutes of english language reporting fame gained through their Olympus expose.

Due to a lack of good science coverage in mainstream media, a pack of universities decided to get together to create their own science news wire service. Whether this is just a simple meta-aggregator, or the beginning of something new and good is still up in the air.

Visualising MPs’ Expenses Using Scatter Plots, Charts and Maps « OUseful.Info, the blog…
Boy, I'd love to see what would happen if they did this in Japan. The media would have a field day for at least 6 months, just for national politician expenses, never mind the prefectural or local politicians. This would be an interesting way of naming/shaming/forcing to resign a large number of the old guard DPJ and LDP politicians at once to attempt by citizen pressure a political clean sweeping.
