Apparently this guy uses some sort of lowtech hydroponics system he's patented. Good enough to eat, but apparently too light(?small?) for the japanese market. I wonder what the yield per acre looks like against water and fertilizer consumption?

The idea of using "used" shipping containers is interesting, especially if you had a hangar style warehouse space with a container crane and "docks" to mate the containers to power/water/chemical/cooling umbilicals. Have the container crane bring the container to the front for harvesting, reload, then set back into the racks. Instead of the farmer going to the vegetables, make the vegetables come to the farmer?

Panasonic: Oxygen-rich Water Encourages Growth of Plants -- Tech-On!
Hrm, I wonder if this could be used out in the field by having an inline aerator microbubbler near the nozzles of agricultural watering equipment? Much easier to implement in hydroponic systems though. Actually, I wonder if you could make an oxygen and carbon dioxide rich water stream for hydroponics, and if that has merit?

Someone pointed out that ideal plant growth acceleration under artificial lighting would be 92% red LED's and 8% blue LED's, and that white LED's are a waste of energy. So these special red LED's by SDK would be great for indoor agriculture and specialty photobioreactors for algae production.

Though there will be the inevitable comments about underground growops in a certain variant hemp industry...
