A ‘Magic Box’ For Your Passivhaus |
The Magic Box, AKA heavily integrated thermal compnents for homes such that heat/cold can be used/reused effectively, from HVAC to hot water heaters and boilers for in floor heating. Most of the focus here is heat recovery ventilators, which recover heat energy from hot exhaust air to preheat/heat the evaporator coil of a heat pump. Too bad hardly anyone is selling them.

A rather smartly designed compact heat exchanger for a lake loop cooler, bypassing the setup needs for a traditional lake loop cooling system and the vast mat of cooling pipes. I would worry about eventual biofouling, but perhaps the convection rate might be enough to deal with that.

The cooling and dehumidifying operation can be easily separated physically and temporally, meaning the desiccant can be regenerated at a later time when low temperature heat is easier to obtain or cheaper to generate (such as night time to offset cooling energy costs)

Interesting that they use high temperature coolant, in an effort to cool to ambient temperature rather than forcefully chill the coolant below ambient, as a kind of economizer.

Aqua-PEX burst resistant flexible plastic tubing. Apparently a suitable alternative to copper pipe in concrete slabs for radiant heating in freezing conditions, as the flexibility can absorb the expansion of water freezing in the pipe should the radiant heat source fail. Well, probably.
