Ceramic–metal composites for heat exchangers in concentrated solar power plants | Nature
New hybrid ceramic for use in heat exchangers. Start with a titanium carbide porous block, immerse in a copper and zirconium bath. The zirconium infiltrates the ceramic and displaces titanium in the carbide, while the titanium migrates into the open pores. Copper ends up being a thin film sealant.

Interesting work on casted metal heat exchangers, which may be cheaper/easier to manufacture than PCHE's for some requirements. Investment casting is simpler, and new fancypants 3D printing of sand cores at high resolution may improve surface finish of the mold.

Basically this sprays the coil unit with water, making this a poor man's version of a deluge evaporation cooler. Naturally, if the humidity is high this becomes less worthwhile. You probably would get better results pressure washing the fins/coil assembly monthly to keep it clean.

Riken's press release on the Fresnel lens solar thermal wankel rotary heat engine. Apparently the lens tech is fairly advanced, being developed as a telephoto lens for observing high energy cosmic rays, with high optical transparency and a surface roughness less than 20nm. They used a three sided lens structure (top plate and two vertical plates), called a "Fresnel Sun House" to gather light well onto a T shaped thermal absorber/heat exchanger, even when the sun is close to the horizon at sunrise/sunset.

Apparently involved with a new high temp noise suppression foam made from hafnium carbide/silicon carbide that ca be stuffed directly into a combustor to provide combustion noise suppression. The foam has high permeability, allowing gases and combustion to move freely, and the structure helps to create uniform combustion. Though I can't imagine this being useful for any high speed gas /liquid fuel combustors/engines, but the press releases talked about jet engines so maybe it actually can?

Interesting concept for using airfoil pressure differential to force air through a heat exchanger embedded in the rear third of an airfoil, while having low frontal drag area. As noted in the PDF, for vehicle applications there will still be a need for an auxiliary fan when stopped, which likely means the airfoil will still be in the engine bay or embedded in the hood to utilize the forced air fan.
