The 3D optimized structure based on simulation with triangles and mirrors for concentration shown in Figure 3b,c is weird. Too bad solar cells aren't normally made as triangles, but as rectangles or squares. Seems the simple tower type that looks like waffle cut fries may be the easiest to make though.

Hrm, 9 panel cube is roughly 4 times better than equivalent non-tracking 2D flat panel at a fixed angle. But comparing the equivalent area monolithic flat 2D fixed panel, it is only 2 times better. For reference, the original footprint using a 2D panel with tracking is 1.8 times better. So, for roughly double the installed $/KW, you can reduce your footprint by 3/4. So this works for area restricted installations. Whether the performance numbers are real for cloudy days at non-optimal angles as well as the alleged increase in peak hour ops is a concern.
