Uses Oauth to retrieve email from Gmail but that should be portable enough pull from other sources (seems like there's a stub for Slack? and vestiages of bulk offline email analysis such as large email dumps). Seems to be an evolved version of Immersion

Interesting talk about moving companies to more transparent and social platforms, to sort of gain back what is lost when a small company goes large. Unfortunately, the internal benefits probably only really come out at scale (Networking Effect) so this has the highest return for large corporations. So this leaves the middle tier companies to be continued to be mired in poor internal communications (because they can't afford the solutions to make it work well, and lack the numbers to make it useful). Market for for a startup to pursue, SaaS platforms for internal comms/social media, AKA this is so totally not Sharepoint/Lynx/Unified Communications?

Interesting concept of semi-realtime outsourced peer/company performance reviews. By increasing the frequency of questions/ratings, you gain more granular insight about the company and team members. But it needs to be democratic and equal across all employees, or it can get petty petty quickly, or hijacked by HR for layoff/firing purposes. I wonder how they get around the "Do I know that guy?" issue?

Interesting spread on increasing TOEIC scores for new hires. Which doesn't jive with reports of the increasingly inward looking/domestic focus of young japanese. The difference might be explainable due to to the TOEIC score report focusing on new full employees, who don't necessarily represent the bulk of young japanese (who are increasingly marginalized into contract/part-time jobs).

Japan has a structural problem of getting soon-to-be college graduates matched with startups due to visibility issues (and the ever present cultural issues of making it big by entering a big corporation). This service is sort of an extension to startup dating for founders, where you are now after early employees. Startups make a video case for themselves to sell their image to graduating seniors. This might have legs since the kind of employee a startup needs won't necessarily fit well in a corporate environment due to a perceived cultural eccentricity in such people.

So I've been hunting for this survey info ever since I half forgotten it. This is bad, in the sense that there are long term implications. A relatively self sustaining country, in terms of resources and exports, can afford to become someward inward looking and isolationist. Japan does not fall into that category. So, the youth, becoming more "me" focused and domestic looking, whle in and of itself is not necessarily a bad thing, for the country overall, Japan is screwed, baring a radical increase in technology that can not be replicated (unlikely), a radical increase in knowledge workers (which requires a global mindset, which this survey shows as lacking), or political changes that make it a corporate safe haven (no way that's happening), so it looks bad. Japan may simply be leading the way for first world countries to have their peak golden years, then settle into a comfortable moribund of suck, assuming what we are seeing is not the first world equivilent of the end of roman empire.

KDDI decides to top NTT DoCoMo's employee walking/health monitoring trick using cellphone accelerometers to do employee profiling to catch the sleepers. Of course this may be useless in the back office where people have their butts parked in chairs for 2 hours at a stretch.

I object to software like this or SpectrePro on principle. It doesn't help that SpectorPro is based on the old netbus trojan, and this company at first glance has that shady "catch your husband cheating!" vibe...

The infamous Netflix corporate culture stance. Hire the best, pay them top rate all the time, clearly show what the goals are and the reasons behind them, then let them do their work without interference. Mostly succeeds in retaining the performance of startup culture in a larger business context. Also avoids B rank managers employing C rank workers. Tough to do well though.
