Diode Pumped Alkali Lasers Could Eventually Enable Practical Airplane Based Laser Anti-Missile Systems
I can faintly hear the "Duh, why didn't I think of that!" resonating amongst a mass of laser scientists. Using a hybrid approach can achieve some goals, but I wonder in terms of overall cost of ownership and applied MJ/$ if this is really better than solid state only lasers. Especially with some of the fiber laser stuff that's been happening.
