Hydraulic Hydro Storage: The Optimal Energy Storage System
Interesting take on pumped hydro, using a giant solid stone piston for the compression mass, cut using an upper and lower ring tunnel connected by a wire saw. So basically an excavate in place scheme for a high mass, rather than say Gravity Power, which uses a vertical TBM and an artificial (concrete?) piston. Still uses water as the working fluid, no indication if this is closed loop. Some of the drawings even show the piston cut from the ground surface, which means as you store energy, this giant cylinder rock mass rises from the ground like a mountain...

If you avoid rotating the cylinder/piston path and only rotate the nutator (using a sine wave swashplate and cam rollers on the rods), you could potentially do an opposed piston layout and have the opposite piston drive a lock synced counter-rotating shaft to reduce vibration.

Lotus Range Extender Engine headed for market
I can understand the desire to reuse known technology, but wouldn't a microturbine be a better choice? I know someone was working on a wankel range extender as well, but wankels chew through rotor lube oil.

The supercharger/turbocharger electric hybrid is interesting. Use the intermediary motor to supplement boost during turbo lag and make up. I wonder if you could do the opposite, run the turbocharger as a generator when there is excess input exhaust gas power into the turbocharger, to prevent overpressure and opening of the wastegate (with corresponding losses in efficiency)?

Ecomotors Opposed-Piston Opposed-Cylinder Engine Could make Class 8 Trucks 45% More Fuel Efficient
Interesting opposed piston engine concept. Each opposed piston cylinder set/module consists of pairs of inner and outer pistons. By putting the inlet and exhaust ports at opposite ends of the cylinder, you get better fuel burn, and potentially easier valve systems. Opposed setups get some nice balance going, and because it is "flat" engine you could potentially put it under the floor/bed of a vehicle rather than in the front, for better weight balance (provided you are using all wheel electric drive, which is not unreasonable since this engine concept uses an electric turbo/supercharger so you will in principle need a large generator/alternator attached to the driveshaft anyways). I wonder what would stop you from using a concept like this for a diesel cycle, since it is functionally a two stroke based cycle?
