Nuclear piston engine, using gaseous "fuel" and hydrogen gas moderator, with neutron reflector piston and cylinder. Uses piston top-dead-center compression effects and a "spark" (external neutron source, like an ADSR particle accelerator neutron spallation target, or some sort of cylinder wall embedded neutron source). Wonder if LiquidPiston reverse wankel would also work well here. Negative void coefficient is nice too.

They are unsure how these hex tubes are forming, conventional theory says they shouldn't occur. But, they have great properties and potentially allow the creation of much larger crystals than current KDP crystals for lasers.

Apparently Toucan birds have a highly mechanically optimized beak. Very lightweight, with a hollow structure where there are no stresses, and elsewhere a bone fiber/membrane foam enclosed by an outer keratin tile sheet exterior, creating a natural biocomposite foam sandwich material in their beaks. Still doesn't explain fully why the beaks are so large, especially for a fruit eater. There was other research into beak properties by using IR camera studies, and it appears the beak is also used as a high performance controllable blood heat radiator to dump metabolic heat. They do interesting tricks like doing a burst of heat dumping just prior to going to sleep to slow down metabolic processes quicker.

Uses an oddball printed circuit board (PCB) based design for a super lightweight (fixed?) stator for the generator (I think the permanent magnet mounted rotor is the outer part of the torus). Definitely a weird direct drive permanent magnet configuration.

Could this potentially be used as a high temperature superconductor alternative (or at least a super high conductivity material with very low resistance), since if you trick the electrons into believing that there is nothing hindering them, there might be no resistance?

UA Engineering Professor Uses Aerospace Materials to Build Endless Green Pipeline
Hrm, manufacturing method is actually EXTREMELY similar to Lockheed's OTEC CWP continuous pipe maker technology. The difference may be Lockheed's pipe maker uses a laminate fabric laydown process that follows the pipe axis, while this seems to do a possibly continuous spiral wrap. Hard to tell.

Compact High-Temperature Superconducting Cables Demonstrated at NIST
Interesting that they have gotten over some of the manufacturing issues, by picking a HTS with a slightly higher strain capability but using it as a tape wrapping a simple copper core. Since this uses an HTS tape, it is comparatively easy to manufacture. It also seems that by using a higher strain capable HTS, they can reduce the cross section of the HTS cable for a given amperage. Now the next trick is figuring out a core former that is hollow to allow coolant to run through it.
