Uses a closed loop ICE of sorts, using input hydrogen/methane and oxygen along with working fluid argon. Burn in a piston, condense out the water, membrane filter the CO2, and recycle the argon back to the cylinder.

Taking Back Control: Next-Generation Cooking with Solid-State RF Energy [Speaker's Corner] - IEEE Journals & Magazine
Solid state microwave emitters with closed loop feedback could make superior microwave ovens. Offshoot of phased array radar work? Plus potentially more compact and efficient, leading to portable microwave ovens...

New shrimp technology could speed up race to feed the world
Interesting, but this is largely shifting energy inputs for perceived production gains. This makes it look like a compact indoor shrimp production facility, with only electricity and fishmeal inputs, produces more. But where does the fishmeal come from, how was it made? Doing true cost analysis compared to traditional inland open pond shrimp farming using pond based algae as food for the shrimp, I wonder if it really is coming out ahead, and is not simply a tradeoff of greater energy expenditure to achieve greater density of end product production.

Gravity Power Grid-Scale Electricity Storage System
Basically uses a closed loop of a large and small bore vertical silos linked together, with a huge weighted piston in the large bore, and reversible turbines at the surface level to complete the loop. Sane if the drilling of the large bore doesn't cost a fortune. Prefer to do it in a seismically inactive area unless you can figure out how to keep the bore from collapsing in an earthquake. Since it's closed loop, head pressure is not the defining characteristic, rather the bore depth determines the drop time like a gravity clock. The trick is the raw bore depth head pressure isn't the driving force, rather the weight block's applied pressure. There is the potential to even do this offshore using floating pipes anchored to the bottom.

The hell, why are they making NX 4 closed source? I can't think of a company that has successfully gone closed source. This will not end well...

Potentially interesting closed photobioreactor technology using flat emitters for the lighting with good energy coupling to the algae. Only problem is, the website screams crank/scam, even if it isn't. Maybe a link to some whitepapers or published articles would be nice...

Looks like these guys pivoted to a SNS like FireChat, but semi-offline using local mesh networking (bluetooth and wifi, for smartphones without data plans), and a closed network structure using real names/faces (to ID and ban outsiders). Currently popular with middleschoolers with smartphones who lack data plans.
