This is borderline cooling version of a perpetual energy generator, but this is an interesting take on fog net concepts. By lightly ionizing the fog and the capture mesh/net, you can get fog droplets to condense better on the net and exceed normal fog nets (which capture 1-3% of passing droplets).

World premiere - TOSA2013 - Flash mobility. Clean city. Smart Bus
EV bus using bus stop flash chargers. Though for flash charging, the power infrastructure for the bus stop and bus are non-trivial for a 15 seconds transfer. You need a buffer system, probably supercaps or flywheels. Interface seems to be a press fit inverted V pantograph rising from the bus, interfacing with a parallel rail DC socket on the underside of the overhead mount, to allow some forward/backward slop in positioning and preventing a DC short by forcing the plug point to correct skew on insertion.

TOSA buses power up for less
Interesting arm mechanism and bus stop overhead design for the flash charger system. Overhead fast recharge is somewhat attractive from an installation standpoint (no road ripping for a embedded inductive charger), but like any flash system, requires high power delivery equipment. Also, paired flywheels sound like a better mechanism for the bus energy storage, and perhaps the bus stop's buffer bank

ABB demonstrates technology to power flash charging electric bus in 15 seconds
Fast charge systems have been proposed in the past for pseudo-trolleybuses and trolleybuses with limited off-route capability via battery. With current PHEV and EV bus types, this might have legs, as it avoids trolleybus electric line infrastructure, and in many places, people expect enclosed bus stops so the charger infrastructure can be built into the stop more easily.. Though from an installation and operations standpoint, a wireless charge pad embedded in the road in front of stop seems potentially more usable. The real problem is the fast charge itself, as most batteries can't accept power that fast, so you are forced to move into supercapacitor type systems, or perhaps electric flywheels.

Phys. Rev. Lett. 109, 244801 (2012): Can a Metal Surface Repel Electric Charges?
Basically, a long cylinder shaped charge packet traveling fast enough is repelled from surrounding materials (including conductive metals) if it is traveling fast enough oriented along the long axis. Which basically means accelerator design improvements to reduce required hardware may be possible.

New USB 3.0 Standard Has Power To Charge Laptops
This might have legs, but the fundamental problem is where and how to deliver the power. Laptops can use the spec for a common wall charger, but they definitely won't be able to power downstream devices at a full 100W. So you have this weird situation where devices that consume power need to be capable of consuming power at all 5 power levels, or at least sensibly give up on high power modes and live with normal USB power. The slightly weird situation would be desktops that refuse to provide power, but an intermediate powered hub can.

Basically an ultrasonic spot beam transducer setup, firing a focused beam of ultrasound towards the receiver, which I assume is just a tweaked piezoelectric microphone setup, to receive acoustic energy and convert that to electricity. Claim 8V transferable (what is the wattage?) and below OHSA sound limits. If the receiver and transmitter use active guidance, you might be able to use a phased array for the transmitter.

Just this side of crazy enough to work...

I think this is implying using piezoelectric setup, where an acoustic wave wiggles the material, creating imbalances to collect solar PV charges (rather than inherent doped electrons and holes like normal solar cells), which get hauled over to electrodes. I don't think this is implying something like thermoacoustic piezoelectric generators...

This is pure marketing genius for large outdoor festivals. The only way to make it better would be to integrate a picocell/femtocell station into the truck to lower transmit requirements for phones near the truck (thus reducing power consumption), but connecting to the phone network backhaul would be nontrivial (WiMAX? Microwave? Shotgun modem setup to aggregate/trunk calls to the next nearest base station with a directional antenna?)

The Edy e-cash services announces it's auto topping up service for their android app, allowing Edy e-cash users to automatically recharge their e-cash balance from a credit card if the e-cash balance falls below a trigger level. Balance levels are checked hourly. Apparently this obvious service is patent pending. I wonder if the hourly check is a bypass around someone else's patent, since the logical thing to do is perform a balance trigger level check after each transaction...

Interesting, using Styrofoam beads as a temporary lattice building framework to make a metal lattice, which is later covered with the final thin film. This creates a very high surface area, allowing super fast charging. But, still like SCiB batteries, it seems the energy density is lower than conventional electrode batteries of the same type (around 75%) . A worthy flaw to allow fast charging? But that doesn't get around the high amperage issues of fast charging, and there is the scary part about fast accidental discharge, so you face the same issues as ultracapacitors.

As usual, the japanese just HAVE to make a domestic standard that is just a little different from everybody else to create a protected domestic market. What's more bizzare is that there is already a EV charger plug standard, SAE J1772, that even the japanese car makers already support. Apparently, that's a bit of a "dumb" plug, so it doesn't handle more I/O channels, cooling, or DRM though so people feel there isn't enough lock-in to screw the user.

Toyota to Develop Home Energy Management System with Storage Battery -- Tech-On!
Toyota getting in to the home energy management game. Naturally their end goal is the ability to do overnight and quick charging of PHEV and EV type vehicles, but this could be a tidy little business in it's own right if they work with construction suppliers and power companies to link into smart grids. Naturally local generation (solar, wind, natural gas fuelcell) and local storage have big parts to play in a smart grid, so making a good agnostic controller/management system is a must.

Finally pulling the pieces together for an actual vehicle2grid setup, at least for testing purposes. There are long term issues that need to be resolved regarding the balance of control over charge/discharge cycles and minimum %charge remaining in the battery of PHEV/EV systems. Am I willing to give up control of 25% or more of my battery capacity in exchange for some sort of meter crediting or reduced rates?
