Ears Open
Uses Goldendance transducers, but it hangs on ear cartilage, so not really true bone conduction. Wonder how it sounds...

Primarily cryogenic bone marrow stem cell storage, which is increasingly likely to be a big thing for health treatments. They also do stem cell storage from umbilical cord blood it seems.

Material heterogeneity in cancellous bone promotes deformation recovery after mechanical failure
So soft surface but brittle interior type bones seem to guide cracks into structurally insensitive areas to maintain strength under failure/deformation.

Sound Band™ | Open Your EarsSound Band™
They call it surface sound, but it sounds like a combo of bone conduction and generic audio leakage going into the ear. Still, might be good, and an alternative to traditional bone conduction headbands that require squeezing your head a little to maintain sufficient contact. Oddly bluetooth 3.0 hardware...

Printing artificial bone - MIT News Office
Based on the internal hierarchical structure of bone/nacre, the research suggests a internal diamond scaling pattern may improve over classical biomimicry for strength and deformation resistance. Which may have defense applications in body armor.

Apparently Toucan birds have a highly mechanically optimized beak. Very lightweight, with a hollow structure where there are no stresses, and elsewhere a bone fiber/membrane foam enclosed by an outer keratin tile sheet exterior, creating a natural biocomposite foam sandwich material in their beaks. Still doesn't explain fully why the beaks are so large, especially for a fruit eater. There was other research into beak properties by using IR camera studies, and it appears the beak is also used as a high performance controllable blood heat radiator to dump metabolic heat. They do interesting tricks like doing a burst of heat dumping just prior to going to sleep to slow down metabolic processes quicker.

Interesting retrofit device for talking underwater. Apparently does some audio processing to deal with consonants, but being a japanese product, the inevitable question of R/L differentiation support will be asked...
