Interesting concept for an SPS using a thin film solar cell array operating as a spin stabilized panel, similar to a solar sail. Uses IR power transmission, probably laser based. Unfortunately, the setup for the laser is not ideal, as it would have to have the laser at the rotating center, requiring either a big central power yoke/gymbal with slip ring, or fixed lasers near the center with active beam steering. Actually fixed lasers with that recently developed polarized grating liquid crystal laser beam steering mechanism might work well here since it's solid state.

Create the Future Design Contest :: InvisiTower
Interesting take on the tethered electric surveillance quadcopter UAV, using the fiber optic cable tether for data and power. So it isn't spewing surveillance data over RF. Goes up against IAI's ETOP tethered quadcopter though.

Basically an ultrasonic spot beam transducer setup, firing a focused beam of ultrasound towards the receiver, which I assume is just a tweaked piezoelectric microphone setup, to receive acoustic energy and convert that to electricity. Claim 8V transferable (what is the wattage?) and below OHSA sound limits. If the receiver and transmitter use active guidance, you might be able to use a phased array for the transmitter.

Just this side of crazy enough to work...

This is the big USEF japan consortium of companies along with JAXA developing SPS tech, with a nominal target goal of 2030, but utterly not addressing the spacelift cost issue

Lasermotive trying to commercialize their power beaming technology with a move towards UAV remote power delivery. If an electric UAV can get power remotely, it cuts down substantially on the weight on onboard energy storage. One possible end result is LEO/GEO power satellites beaming power to military surveillance UAV's in remote areas (not useful for other applications since you have a giant laser from the sky shining on the UAV so it would be an easily identifiable target)
