Interesting magnetically coupled KERS, meaning no shaft/shaft seal on a hermetically sealed KERS case, transferring mechanical energy via magnetic coupling through a composite case covering the core shaft. Basically, this is a mechanical KERS, not electric.

It's similar to stuff like Beacon Power UPS flywheels, but it extends the shaft outwards and does magnetic coupling to drive the flywheel. You take a hit in efficiency for a gain in no sliding seals to keep the vacuum. I suppose this is a valid alternative for mechanical energy storage and recovery, but I wonder how much slip there is in the magnetic coupling. For a flywheel UPS storage battery application, this is somewhat attractive as it keeps the hot motor/generator outside the vacuum chamber so it is easier to cool.
