Consortium for SEP 2 Interoperability
So a couple of major IP transport layer standards organizations are working on compatibility to support smartgrid applications in the home. HomePlug would cover HomePlug aware wired hardware communicating over powerline (PLC) (and covers communicating with electric and hybrid vehicles charging in the garage), while wifi and ZigBee cover mobile and low power sensor hardware. Sure took long enough to do this, and it will be interesting to see the fight between Cisco, the power meter makers, and Android for domination of the home energy management space.

HomePlug Powerline networks electric cars from Audi, BMW, more - SlashGear
Okay, this is interesting. Possibly an end run to make Homeplug/PLC a defacto communications interface standard for smart homes and the smart grid?
