Fujitsu Turns Semiconductor Plant Into Vegetable Plant -- Tech-On!
Fujitsu already closed several semiconductor fabs in that town, shipping the manufacturing hardware to new fabs in china. One site was so heavily contaminated that they couldn't sell the property after razing the plant and doing remediation, so they got the prefecture to build a magnet school on the site. I assume this plant is one of the older fabs on the southwest side of town, but wasn't heavily contaminated. With a still usable clean room in an industrial park full of other fabs, it would have been hard to sell otherwise in such a depressed local economy.

Fujitsu Develops World's First Cloud Platform to Leverage Big Data : Fujitsu Global
I have doubts about their definition of big data, and how exactly do they intend to import data into such a cloud? Station wagons full of tapes?

Fujitsu Develops Information Device Technology to Automatically Deliver and Run Applications Needed at Particular Time and Place : Fujitsu Global
Er, so they propose a system where an external entity can push software at will to a user, force it to execute within a defined geotemporal time/location, then forcibly delete said app and data when you leave the confines of the geotemporal coordinates. Nothing can go wrong there...

If you actually care about the data, you would only provide it via a local web interface or some kind of thin client analogue. Allowing potentially untrusted apps to install, execute, then delete is malware behavior, even if by some miracle you could sandbox it somehow.

Using NFC as way to introduce the data to the portable device isn't bad though, as way to pass URL's or somesuch, though having a laptop at registration showing a custom QRcode per person achieves the same ends though.

Fujitsu announces 'Engineering Cloud' for manufacturing ‹ Japan Today: Japan News and Discussion
This seems to be pretty smart, outsourcing the segments of manufacturing support IT operations for small companies to someone who is competant, and getting access to better softwre and supply chain management suites. The CAD stuff is going to be difficult, short of using something like VMware's PCoIP protocol for doing remote 3D CAD work, but that ultimately needs a fairly high end PC or specialist thin client to do it well.

Fujitsu to Launch Mobile Service for Diabetic Patients -- Tech-On!
Almost there. Dedicated cable is dumb, but understandable since the bluetooth health device profile stuff is not ideal, and this is marketed towards elderly diabetics, who are likely to already use these "Rakuraku" simplified feature phones and need something simple. Now if that bloodless glucose monitoring sensor technology finally comes together, and linked with a bluetooth radio, diabetics can avoid the hardest part about glucose monitoring; that stabbing the finger business to draw blood that really hurts.

Microsoft may set up data center for cloud computing service in Japan › Japan Today: Japan News and Discussion
Hrm, sour grapes from the joint work with Fujitsu to cause this? Or just plain profit motivations making asharing deal less attractive. Or maybe microsoft wants to deploy a containerized datacenter and Fujitsu wasn't willing. I guess this may be for Azure, the Live family of services, Office Online, and possibily WIndows 8 related services...

Fujitsu Delivers Cloud Services Enhancing Business ICT Operations : FUJITSU
Fujitsu is trying to get into the cloud game, but 31yen an hour for the lowest tier, with no supporting ecosystem aside from Fujitsu's own outsourcing arm? Something smells of markup and price gouging and the usual DEAR GOD WHY IS JAPAN SO EXPENSIVE. Amazon will eat their lunch when EC2 rolls into a domestic japanese zone soon, since they can absorb some costs through the US and EU operations to undercut the locals. All Fujitsu can bank on is domestic brand image, but this smells of an enterprise play and isn't targeting SMB's well.
