Sweden’s feminist foreign minister has dared to tell the truth about Saudi Arabia. What happens now concerns us all » The Spectator
You might think of Swedes as upright social democrats, who have never let worries of appearing tedious stand in the way of their righteousness. But that has never been wholly true, and is certainly not true when there is money at stake. [...] No less a figure than His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf himself hauled Wallström in at the weekend to tell her that he wanted a compromise. Saudi Arabia has successfully turned criticism of its brutal version of Islam into an attack on all Muslims, regardless of whether they are Wahhabis or not, and Wallström and her colleagues are clearly unnerved by accusations of Islamophobia. The signs are that she will fold under the pressure, particularly when the rest of liberal Europe shows no interest in supporting her. [...] Finally, and most revealingly in my opinion, the non-affair shows us that the rights of women always come last. [...] an embarrassed and hugely revealing silence. // via http://redd.it/30el3h

With Turf, Women See Unequal Footing - NYTimes.com
The fight here is not really about the downside of artificial turf, of which there are many. The ball rolls faster and straighter and bounces higher on turf than on grass, and sliding is a hazardous proposition, since synthetic turf causes more friction than grass. As the knees, elbows and chins of soccer players everywhere will divulge, the turf can peel back layers of skin, and it may cause concussions because it tends to be less forgiving than grass. Continue reading the main story RECENT COMMENTS John McD. 23 hours ago It might be worth finding out if any of the "lesser" FIFA men's and boys' WC and Olympic tournaments have ever been played on artificial... Steve Jenkins 23 hours ago It may be interesting for Western New York fans to know that Amy Wambach does not give 100% since her team plays on artificial turf. “I’m... sipa111 Yesterday Just to be clear. The World Cup is being hosted in Canada and the Canadian hosts offered stadiums with artificial turf which FIFA approved... SEE ALL COMMENTS “There’s not a person on the planet that would prefer playing on it, not even Sepp Blatter,” Wambach said, referring to the FIFA president, who last week insisted artificial turf was the future of the sport (though apparently not for men’s championships).

The Future of Pando | Ugly.
The fact is, I’m getting a total pass for something I have repeatedly said was my responsibility, while my female business partner is receiving the full blame. It seems to me that either the person or persons spreading the smears about Pando has decided that a female employer is deserving of abuse and scorn in a way that a male boss isn’t, or they’ve cynically concluded that a female boss presents a much easier target for an Internet hate campaign. [...] In the past 72 hours, I’ve come to truly realize what female founders and CEOs in our industry deal with every day of their lives. That it took me this long to understand is another of my many failings. The ugliness has to stop. [ It is easier, faster to bash the weaker sex. especially if the women on top is not apologetic. it seems. men + anonymity of internet and the non-attachment, non-face-to-face situation, feel the urge to say stuff like X, about Sarah Lacy and the other week about Marissa Mayer, who overslept. ]
