Martin Schulz: Mehrheit hält den SPD-Kanzlerkandidaten für unglaubwürdig - SPIEGEL ONLINE
Was!?

Help-to-buy loan scheme nets Treasury £213m in paper profit | Money | The Guardian
[ gov is not co-owner of private property! Make away with Nurse Bursaries and other gov support for education. But support the property price! by keeping supply always lower than demand. and use policy to increase demand w subsidies! where to put their savings! & subsidy for builders ] Rising house prices across much of England mean a government scheme to help buyers of newbuild property may have made more than £200m for the Treasury in its first two-and-a-half years. The help-to-buy equity loan scheme gives buyers an interest-free loan for five years in return for a percentage stake in their property. When the home is sold, the buyer returns the same percentage of the sale price, meaning that any fall or rise in house prices affects the return. Analysis by property firm Hometrack and shared with the Guardian suggests that a surge in house prices in some areas means the total value of homes bought through the scheme since its launch in April 2013 has increased by more than £1bn.

Cuts to council youth budgets are putting vital specialist provision for vulnerable youngsters in jeopardy [...] “Youth provision has always been the Cinderella service and LGBT youth provision is its poor relation,” [...] Overall, youth services directly provided by councils in England have been cut by 36% since 2011 – from £877m to £561m total expenditure, according to figures provided by Kate Green, shadow minister for women and equalities. “Councils are facing impossible decisions about youth services as the government slashes their revenue support grants by over 50%, regardless of the cost to individuals and communities,” //&! Changing the benefit rules for EU migrants no effect on migration - Politics live | Politics | The Guardian
[ Evidence: Tories working on the fringes again to satisfy stern neocons and potential UKIP voters. Always the promise to reduce migration with new quick fix schemes. Voters demands are symptoms of ill democracy, democracy for the rich. Its always the others ... not those on top of the ladder having party time. ] Sir Stephen Nickell, one of the three members of the OBR’s budget responsibility committee, was asked about this, and this is what he said: Changing the benefit rules for EU migration so that they become more difficult to obtain - you are asking me what impact that is likely to have. In my opinion: not much. I am prepared to say that any changes to benefit rules are unlikely to have a huge impact on migration flows. But to go further and start trying to analyse the actual consequences is not within our remit.

NHS rationing 'is denying patients care' as cash crisis deepens | Society | The Guardian
Survey of doctors reveals concern about adults and children being denied treatment, resulting in emergency care or worsening of long-term conditions [...] A survey of doctors reveals that three-quarters said they had seen care rationed in their area over the last year – including treatments such as speech therapy, operations to remove varicose veins, Botox to help children with cerebral palsy move better and even potentially life-saving stem cell transplant surgery. //&! NHS watchdog slams hospitals' handling of patient complaints Dame Julie Mellor warns that three out of four investigations fail to identify serious failings in care as families are often met with ‘wall of silence’ [...] “Hundreds of thousands of incidents of poor care go unreported every year across the NHS precisely because people fear they either won’t be taken seriously or that nothing will change as a result.” //&! https://redd.it/3w2auw

Elizabeth Warren: No Need to Stop Uber-ized Workforce, but Must Invest in Education (Video) | Re/code
Warren defends Uber-ization of labor // Elizabeth Warren, the Massachusetts senator denounced by some as a “far-left” socialist radical, came out in support of the “Uber-ization” of the labor force. “We’re not going to stop tech so that lots of people will work,” Sen. Living wage employer says everyone benefits - BBC News
The legal minimum wage is currently set at £6.50 an hour, below the £7.80 living wage which is the rate thought to be sufficient to adequately pay bills. A BBC Scotland investigation has found that 10 of the 50 biggest employers in Scotland say they pay staff a living wage. Jenny Stewart of KPMG, one of the firms who pay a living wage, say it benefits employee and employer: "We saw a 50% reduction in turnover of staff... staff morale went up considerably. "The individuals were getting the benefit of the living wage but neither KPMG nor the subcontractors were having additional cost as a result." Robert Reich - President Obama is now selling his proposed Trans...
President Obama is now selling his proposed Trans Pacific Partnership as necessary to contain China. "Either China writes the rules of global trade or we do," he said Friday. But his trade pact is really a giveaway to American-based global corporations that initiated it and are pushing it in Congress -- and which are making and selling all over the world, and shifting profits to wherever they pay the lowest taxes (some are even morphing into foreign corporations). And those same U.S. based corporations do whatever China wants to gain access to that huge market. As an Apple executive told The New York Times, “We don’t have an obligation to solve America’s problems.”

BBC News - Budget 2015: George Osborne sets out 'northern powerhouse' vision
[ Manchester X-times more affordable than London ] Also announced as part of the budget were plans to invest £11m in creating technology hubs in Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield. The sites will offer co-working space, meeting spaces and educational resources to entrepreneurs working in the digital sector. [...] Speaking about the announcement today, he said: "The deal is disappointing and doesn't match the scale of our ambition. It undermines the government's claim to want a strong northern powerhouse. "If we are to turn that into a reality we need real devolution, including fiscal devolution, to enable us to bring about a step change in the city region's economy." Councillor Andrew Carter, leader of Leeds City's Council's conservative party, said he wanted to to see an elected mayor in Leeds. "[It] will give proper public scrutiny and accountability to what will then be a Manchester style package of devolution, which has to be a good thing," he said.

BBC News - Millennials, not Mumsnet: Younger women and the 2015 election
Radio One DJ Gemma Cairney, 29, said that for many of her generation, politics was a "complete other world", which many could not even get up the energy to feel let down by. Many were in debt - which created a whole new reason not to register to vote. "They are afraid to register because that means the bailiffs know where they live," she said. But what can politicians do to appeal to "millennial" voters? [...] Sexism in the male-dominated corridors of power was highlighted by columnist Ms Gordon. She said she had once been called a "slut" to her face by an MP who went on to become a minister. "You have to sweep that culture out," she said - and using quotas to get more women into Parliament was one way to do it. [...] About 22% of MPs are women - "20% of us is not enough", she said. "I think it's quite damaging for democracy."

The French far-right party gets 25% of the votes in European elections : worldnews
The other downside is election turnouts are horrible. This has been the first European Parliament election where the turnout rose compared to the previous year. Since 1979, when the elections were implemented, turnout has fallen even year except 2014, where turnout rose by a measly 0.1%. With only 43% turnout, European Parliament elections have some of the lowest turnout of all elections in Europe. In France, this turnout number is likely even lower as the French do not consider the European Parliament particularly important, even by European standards. And frankly, when you look at the legislatures and see how neutered they are by the bureaucratic process. it is hard for people to really care about the elections. This phenomenon enables those that are very active and mobilized (such as the FL, French's far right) to basically hijack the elections and win because voter turnout amongst the politically apathetic is only worsened by the insignificance of the election.

Come my revolution, the apathetic will get their say | Marina Hyde | Comment is free | The Guardian
I can think of no single more achievable boost to our democracy than having a none-of-the-above box added to every 2015 ballot paper, and an amendment to media regulations insisting that the disaffected be formally represented in all TV studios and other forums in the runup to polling day. They may well be the biggest political demographic. At the time of writing, it was unclear how many people voted in the local and European elections, but one thing was crystal: the vast majority didn't. It doesn't look to have been a historically low showing, estimated at about 36%. But with predictions that next year's big one could rival the philosophically illegitimising depth of Labour taking 35% of a 61% turnout in 2005, how long should politicians be ethically permitted to ignore such a vast constituency? + http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-26385554
