In the loop August 28: Google, Brexit lobby and Uber's expansion by POLITICO Europe
[My take, for EU to thrive, it needs 2 develop & integrate further the 6 killer apps of western nations history, but they dont do that. quite the opposite especially under pressure situations (refugee crisis response: bit.ly/1KkArk5 Merkel 'this is EU wide problem, not just Germanys') & that is very much something that speaks 4 Brexit as UK has 2 give up further powers & further struggle 2 be just a prosthetics (not even appendage like science can grow an ear on someones arm) 2 Europe, which gives other countries internal nationalism leverage 2 put barriers in way of really putting Europe on the map of the "world economy," developing/advancing the 6 killer apps 4 Europe. Brexit will be part of Merkel's legacy! Verwalten of status quo. No principles. No vision. No mission. No future.] bit.ly/1FW3Qgi // European integration itself is a Moonshot project & it looks like that crisis management leading to political crisis, doesnt help at all putting the rocket together in the first place.

Owen Jones: if the Tories get more seats than Labour, get ready for a Very British Coup
A commitment to raise the top rate of income tax to the same level as Japan’s, to levy a tax on the top 0.5 per cent of homeowners and to cut public expenditure every year is not exactly parliamentary socialism in our time. But long ago, most of the media & other powerful forces in British society decided that the prospect of Miliband as prime minister was simply unacceptable. His leadership represents a modest departure from three decades of consensus established by Thatcher governments, but any departure is deemed intolerable. The highly personalised “Get Ed” campaign has taken a sinister turn. The Tories & their media allies are now declaring that a government led by Miliband would be illegitimate. A very British coup of our own. /(1) Political Cross Dressing of both parties. (2) Cameron/Tories played fear card. That England (they) will be governed by Labour&SNP. &SNP will hold the whip. He doesnt know what he bargained for long-term. For this victory. Irrecoverable damage.

My first and last time at the Crunchies — TheLi.st @ Medium — Medium
At the Crunchies, comedian T.J. Miller, a star of the show “Silicon Valley” (which I watch and love), threw out a bunch of playful zingers in his opening act. But then at one point, he engaged with a woman (Gabi Holzwarth) a few rows in front of me by calling her a “bitch”. She responded increduously, “Did you just call me a bitch?” He then said, “Bitch, Asians aren’t supposed to be this entitled in the U.S. … Is this bitch from Palo Alto?” The audience laughed nervously. I was so uncomfortable I wanted to leave, but of course I couldn’t given that our award was coming up.
Stephen Roach On Why Abe's Aggression Won't Save Japan //via ZeroHedge
The politicization of central banking continues unabated.

[...] [... GFC USA Aftermath ...]

When the bubbles burst, households understandably became fixated on balance-sheet repair – namely, paying down debt and rebuilding personal savings, rather than resuming excessive spending habits.

[...]

US consumers have pulled back as never before. In the 19 quarters since the start of 2008, annualized growth of inflation-adjusted consumer spending has averaged just 0.7% – almost three percentage points below the 3.6% trend increases recorded in the 11 years ending in 2006.

[...]

Not only is QE’s ability to jumpstart crisis-torn, balance-sheet-constrained economies limited; it also runs the important risk of blurring the distinction between monetary and fiscal policy. Central banks that buy sovereign debt issued by fiscal authorities offset market-imposed discipline on borrowing costs, effectively subsidizing public-sector profligacy.

There are too many 'old' people in the world (01Oct12) - YouTube
"demographic burden"
it is happening.
status quo can not be upheld

No only get people old, but also old and sick (diabetes, cancer, obesity, ... modern world diseases) at the same time and current health policy is only about managing the diseases. Public and Health policy has to be about prevention. Thus lowering the overall cost. Also giving people better quality of life ... getting older ... dying of old age, and not because of a disease.

World faces ageing population time bomb says UN
The world needs to take urgent action to cope with the impact of a rapidly ageing population, according to a new report, which forecast that the number of people older than 60 would surpass one billion within a decade.

Scandal At The IMF: Senior Economist Resigns, Says "Ashamed To Have Had Any Association With Fund At All" | ZeroHedge
the following scathing letter which tears down every myth about the IMF: from its impartiality, to the selection process of its head, to its effectiveness. The letter also contains the following gem: "After twenty years of service, I am ashamed to have had any association with the Fund at all." Pretty much says it all. This is a scandal in the making, and one which may shake to the core the credibility of the IMF in the context of international organization.

Hugh Hendry: When I Speak On TV It Gives The Impression That I Am Full Of Myself | ZeroHedge
Word that describe the GFC and the LIBOR rigging scandal (which will see central banks, bank bosses and regulators aware of the issue at the hight of the crisis 2008) ::

“We have reached a profound point in economic history where the truth is unpalatable to the political class – and that truth is that the scale and magnitude of the problem is larger than their ability to respond – and it terrifies them.”

[...]

For example, he reckons US government bond yields, already at record lows, will continue to fall. And, although he professes not to be a contrarian, he is more optimistic about the US than many investors and is “long the debt-saddled west and short the vastly over-vaunted and over-owned” Bric quartet of Brazil, Russia, India and China.

He believes that financial markets are single-digit years away from a crash that will present investors with opportunities of a lifetime. “Bad things are going to happen and I still think the closest analogy is the 1930s.”

Attacks paid for by big business are 'driving science into a dark era' | Science | The Observer
She confessed that she was now "scared to death" by the anti-science movement that was spreading, uncontrolled, across the US and the rest of the western world.

"We are sliding back into a dark era," she said. "And there seems little we can do about it. I am profoundly depressed at just how difficult it has become merely to get a realistic conversation started on issues such as climate change or genetically modified organisms."

Oreskes is co-author, with Erik Conway, of Merchants of Doubt,
"Our present crisis over the rise of anti-science has been coming for a long time and we should have seen it coming," adds Oreskes.

Heads They Win, Tails We Lose: How Corporations Corrupt Science at the Public's Expense,

the worst excesses of the anti-science lobbies are confined to the US. However, there are signs that their influence is spreading,
