More than 24,000 Scots hospitalised because of drinking
50p minimum price per one unit of alcohol, to come into effect March 2018, after years of legal fight against the alc lobby vested interest. (Sugar Tax, ) - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-42066394 - Minimum pricing has been broadly welcomed by health bodies and alcohol awareness groups, who say it will target the kind of drinking that leads to the greatest harm. //
People from the most deprived areas are nearly eight times more likely to need help, according to the NHS. There were 36,235 alcohol-related hospital admissions last year - the equivalent of more than 100 a day. They involved 24,060 individual patients - up from the 35,376 admissions involving 23,656 patients the previous year. Alcohol-related admissions had been falling for almost a decade but the latest figures show there were 685.2 hospital admissions per 100,000 people last year - an annual increase of almost 2%. //&! http://www.scotsman.com/news/politics/drink-related-hospital-stays-on-the-rise-1-4619230

What is the 'gig' economy? | FT Comment - YouTube
human capital, HR - as cost center. // trading short-term competitiveness (kick ppl of the book according to demand) but trade it in aggregate with long-term social deprivation and skill gaps and underinvestment. because of dog eat dog mentality than you are incentivised to compete on price, because it is the easiest and you are able to to it with those neoliberal labour reforms in Europe. Don't compete with Amazon on price. Don't compete with China/Asia on price. Stupid.

The psychologists walking 100 miles to fight austerity’s impact on mental health | Dawn Foster | Society | The Guardian
[ Cindarella Service ] Psychologists embark on a mental health march to raise awareness of the devastating effect that cuts are having on their patients [...] Walk the Talk, an awareness-raising trek from the British Psychological Society (BPS) offices in Leicester to its headquarters in the capital, will take in visits to food banks, supported housing, homelessness services and mental health centres, recording testimonies from people whose psychological wellbeing has been jeopardised by the benefits system and Work Programme. [...] spectrum of mental health problems resulting from poverty. [...] Stress, depression and anxiety can be completely debilitating, he says, and when this stress is caused by hardship, trying to combat it through talking therapies feels like ignoring the reality of the situation. [...] Figures demonstrate that individuals in more unequal societies have poorer overall mental health and emotional wellbeing.”
