Anti-Semitism: Labour could face human rights probe - BBC News
The Equalities and Human Rights Commission said it was considering launching a formal investigation into anti-Semitism in the party.

The Labour Party said: "We completely reject any suggestion the party has acted unlawfully and will be co-operating fully with the EHRC."

The watchdog is asking the party to work with it to improve its processes.

Once the EHRC's formal letter is received by Labour, the party will have 14 days to respond to the concerns raised.

An Equality and Human Rights Commission spokesperson said: "Having received a number of complaints regarding anti-Semitism in the Labour Party, we believe Labour may have unlawfully discriminated against people because of their ethnicity and religious beliefs.

"Our concerns are sufficient for us to consider using our statutory enforcement powers.

"As set out in our enforcement policy, we are now engaging with the Labour Party to give them an opportunity to respond."

New leadership, same old problems - BBC News
new money won't be seen till next year, new winter crisis is coming for sure, and the wait lists will get even longer. - Health think tanks argue that the 3.4% is really only enough to cope with rising demand, never mind improving care.

Hospital sources point out that the new money won't come to the NHS until next year.

Nothing extra so far has been allocated for this winter and the intense pressure seen in the first months of this year is likely to be repeated.

There is every chance that waiting lists for routine surgery will get longer and accident and emergency performance won't get better.

Even with the £6bn cash boost next year, there are warnings that there won't be any rapid improvement. His instincts will be to tell the service to get on with job with the money it has. But that conviction will be tested in the depths of winter if hospitals are struggling to cope. [...] Also plays with part-privatisation of Elderly Care - asking people to take out a private insurance ... or lose their home ...

Hunt and Hammond 'gridlocked' over NHS funding rise | Society | The Guardian
Prof Anita Charlesworth, the Health Foundation’s chief economist, said: “Annual increases of 3.3% a year above inflation are the minimum required to prevent services from further decline. But stemming decline should not be the goal for the NHS in its 70th year.

“After eight years of austerity, people are waiting too long for care, the NHS doesn’t have enough clinical staff, public health budgets have been cut and just four in 10 people with a mental health problem get any help at all.

“If we are to make any inroads into these problems and secure the health service for the future, funding needs to increase by at least 4% a year.” //&! - The decision is not an act of compassion. It is not a birthday gift – although it might be sold as such because the NHS is 70 this July. It is not because there is a Brexit dividend – there isn’t. It is because the NHS is falling apart before people’s eyes.

What will cost more than lifting the public sector pay cap? Not lifting it | Faiza Shaheen | Opinion | The Guardian
[finding efficiencies ... ] Let’s start with costs of recruitment and retention. This is a big one. Job advertising isn’t cheap and new recruits take time to settle in. Last year, a study found there had been a 61% rise in advertising spend since 2010 in secondary schools alone, costing £56m in 2015. Shortages in the health service mean NHS Trusts are paying millions every month to agency and bank nurses to ensure there are adequate levels of staff on wards.

Stress-related leave has also increased in the public sector as workers are understandably getting run down working in understaffed schools and hospital wards. This is just staff – what about the costs to our children of being in classes too big for them to maximise their learning or to a sick individual who has an operation delayed?

Ipswich and Colchester Hospitals' merger moves a step closer - BBC News
Mergers of GPs and CCGs and Super Mergers like rumors in Scotland for 4-5 super trusts eg one NE Trust is the new internal thinking to cope with the political challenge of political austerity. STPs and rationing (prioritising cancer and emergency care) just the microcosm or finding £ efficencies but not with the aim of improving patient safety, satisfaction and outcomes. And also making things unequal - preferred treatment decisions taken based on what ill you have and how ill you are and if it is life threatening.

Stephen Hawking: I'm worried about the future of the NHS - BBC News
"The more profit is extracted from the system, the more private monopolies grow and the more expensive healthcare becomes. The NHS must be preserved from commercial interests and protected from those who want to privatise it," he said.

Now NHS cuts are stripping basic medicines from the poor | Polly Toynbee | Opinion | The Guardian
In some places patients can only get one cataract fixed: seeing with one eye is enough. [...] The NHS is ordered to cut an impossible £22bn by 2020 – but there is no national instruction as to what. Politically, it’s easier to leave local decision-makers to take the blame.

Essex nursery 'closes because of universal free hours scheme' - BBC News
underfunded policies. promising something w big number £, not adding up. see Prisons, Police, NHS, mental health, infrastructure (electrification), Hinkley Point C, HS2. And School Meals and DementiaTax from Theresa May. And the 2bn that add not up for "bed blocking". See also voter response to 'we don't need to budget our manifesto, look at our track record.' Or the brilliance of disaster (cant make that shit up) the new funding formula and roll out for schools funding per pupil is was.

Driving students away from nursing is a spectacular act of political self-harm | Polly Toynbee | Opinion | The Guardian
With 40,000 nursing vacancies unfilled, the news that training applications are down by 23% is disastrous for the NHS [...] It reckons that in all over the past 10 years, 400,000 people who would have studied part-time in higher education have been deterred from doing so. [... can really re-pay the fees working for nurse salary + the jobs commitment ... + working 50% of their time training! ] [...] Janet Davies, head of the Royal College of Nursing, warns that nurses’ attitudes will alter once they are paying heftily for their training: “They will demand better clinical placements and their relationship with the NHS will change: carrying a heavy debt to get qualified, they will feel less obligation to work in the NHS.” The government promised that imposing fees on trainee nurses would see an increase of 10,000 new training places; none have been provided.

One year on, and Theresa May has betrayed almost everyone she vowed to help | Politics | The Guardian
[a speech to reassert herself] She will say her commitment to social justice and determination to address difficult issues remains “undimmed”, despite her calamitous general election performance. But pre-briefings suggest it will be light on specifics (unlike last year, where it sprinkled with references from poor access to mental health services to unequal life expectancy).

Of the legendary Jam families, there appears to be no mention. [...] A record 60% of British people in poverty now live in households where someone is in work. &!
