The internet is obsessed with this new Acapella app | Technology | The Guardian
Mixcord co-founder Daniel Vinh told BuzzFeed the idea for the app came about from one of its other apps, PicPlayPost, which began as a collage maker and now allows users to make video collages. They noticed people were making a cappella songs on PicPlayPost and went from there. So, if you were wondering why your feed has been filling up with a bunch of harmonies: now you know.

The Vergecast 168: Really good codeine - YouTube
min 46 // Instagram increased res for square format, now allowing all photo formats (vertical and landscape, after user hacked the square format - putting in landscape or portrait photos with borders - to make it square) vs what it was and was not and what it only offered on release day. "the great equaliser." all had the same tool, limitations, options, ways to express, make photos more interesting. thus it showed off some specific creative you (how to use your phone camera), not your skill and experience with Photoshop, lighting, photo school rules - that can set you apart. Instagram was a small, limited, enhanced window you your world, to that moment - captured. And now like Social Media. It is being gamed. Exploited. Abused. For specific commercial and or personal purpose. // Instagram was sort of, lucked out, with not being something for everyone. No it has become that thing that can be used by everyone - for their purpose. Follows it being primed for advertisers ...

The First Phone Jony Ive Ever Designed - YouTube
7:30 form implies function; tableness & then came the silicon chip. a phone could look like a banana&still function like a phone. &culture/society is in there too as well as learned behaviour&usage of ie the table form. || THUS how do u design a button, layout, functionality or UI/UX, with half the usual buttons & no deep menus on a smart phone screen? u let them swipe the entire screen left, right, up, down. all while you adhere 2 "don't show me." || if something is designed well & u might hv borrowed some components/ideas elsewhere from proven concepts (turning pages), people dont need 2 be shown. users apply learned behaviour from existing design concepts, get immediate feedback that tells them u did it right or no you have to do it this way, bc there is no other way. there are no 3, 4 options to try out X, there are only two, right & wrong. & and wrong shows/nudges them to the right use of X. || Anticomplexity, -friction, communicating without words, medium is the message (ie led)

Employee Data Breach The Worst Part Of Sony Hack | TechCrunch
Hackers found a file with Sony usernames and passwords called “Usernames&Passwords.” Sony Director of Information Security Jason Spaltro even gave an interview in 2007 whose whole point was to revel in Sony’s security loopholes: “it’s a valid business decision to accept the risk” of a security breach. “I will not invest $10 million to avoid a possible $1 million loss,” he said at the time. This hack is estimated to cost Sony $100 million after all is said and done. The last one cost the company a cool $171 million. &! &! http://techcrunch.com/2014/12/15/why-its-right-to-report-on-the-sony-hack/

After abandoning core Tumblr users, Yahoo does the same with Flickr. So what? | PandoDaily
Nevertheless, the abandonment of core constituencies within both Flickr’s and Tumblr’s user base reveal a very clear — and perhaps not unwise at this stage of the game — gambit on the part of Mayer: Loyal users are nice, but when they don’t play into any clear or significant profit strategy, who needs them? ... ie YouTube and FB ... now part of Pop Culture. But hardcore users and early adopters cried out loud when changes were coming geared towards revenues, pageviews, Signal vs Noise, ... etc

What Facebook’s Messenger debacle says about the company… both the brilliant and the terrible | PandoDaily
But more to the point is what the whole thing says about Facebook. There are two important takeaways: One troubling and one impressive. One that speaks to the company’s greatest Achilles Heel as long as I’ve covered it, and one that speaks to its greatest strength. The first is just how much people distrust and are predisposed to dislike Facebook. [...] But the problem is Facebook is as synonymous with disrespecting your privacy today as Microsoft was for abusing it’s monopolist position in the post-Netscape days. [...] ADOPTION AND MOBILE HOMESCREEN // >> But right now, they are all on going parallel experiments that are ultimately competing to be the thing we open the most everyday when we are waiting in line, killing time, or want to shout out a video, photo or emoji to a pal.

Native advertising remains an awkward — but very necessary — mess | PandoDaily
http://bit.ly/1rRdtax "“We can buy page views… but we can’t buy time spent,” Segrist said, euphorically. Costolo’s plan to make Twitter all about entertainment makes perfect sense | PandoDaily
"There are huge dollars in entertainment– more than in news and certainly more than in what your friend had for lunch. Twitter is the only force on earth that argues against time shifting. Sure you can TiVo the Oscars. But you better not open Twitter for two hours if you do. And lastly, with “just” 300 million users or so Twitter desparately needs to go mainstream. Like it or not, this is a generation of consumer Web companies graded on the Facebook and LinkedIn curves. You gotta either have the size of the former or the monetization of the latter. The lowest common denominator on global culture are movies, music, TV, and sports. As his friend Ryan Seacrest can attest, more people vote for American Idol hopefuls than elected officials." || Twitter is now a live stream of what is happening.
