"We are all in this together." << yea right. We just don't have a lobby like Canary Wharf and Fortune500 companies. // A demonstrable shift took place once the coalition settled in, says Neville. Along with “relentless” targets, huge caseloads, and less time to spend with individual claimants, she lists the increasing complexity of the system including the many and very complicated forms that needed to be filled in and problems with the fitness to work test administered by Atos. “It used to feel like we were doing something for clients, now it was [doing something] to them,” she says. Things were made all the more difficult, ...

In a SPIEGEL interview, she says her country is retreating into insularity and to attitudes prevalent in Victorian times. [...] It's a retreat into insularity, into a mood of harshness. When people feel they're being mistreated, they lash out against people who are weaker than themselves, immigrants for example. What's happening here at the moment is really ugly. The government portrays poor and unfortunate people as being morally defective. This is a return to the thinking of the Victorians. Even in the 16th century, Thomas Cromwell was trying to tell people that a thriving economy has casualties [...]

The Coming Race War Won’t Be About Race | TIME
via reddit - http://bit.ly/1oLANYC || Ferguson is not just about systemic racism — it's about class warfare and how America's poor are held back, says Kareem Abdul-Jabbar [...] According to a 2012 Pew Research Center report, just half of U.S. households are middle-income, a drop of 11 percent since the 1970s; median middle-class income has dropped by 5 percent in the last ten years, total wealth is down 28 percent. Fewer people (just 23 percent) think they will have enough money to retire. Most damning of all: fewer Americans than ever believe in the American Dream mantra that hard work will get them ahead. || + Krawalle nach Tod von Michael Brown: Obama schickt obersten US-Ermittler nach Ferguson - http://bit.ly/1mjvmKV http://bit.ly/1veMG9c || http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-28861149 - << no trust into investigation, into officials, ...
