They've successfully completed what might be the most dangerous mission in history: the recovery of the Winter Soldier.

Now comes the recovery of Bucky Barnes, which is turning out to be even more difficult.
A story about Bucky coming back to the surface with the help of Steve, Sam, pancakes, video games, the city of New York, assorted Avengers, and beds that--really, let's be honest here--are too soft to sleep on.

It all started because the phone sex was just making things worse.

It's a toss-up as to whether Stiles would prefer the screaming night-terrors about all his friends dying, or the statistically-significant likelihood of supernatural disembowelment that comes with wandering comatose around this freaking town after dark. Stiles can't sleep. Scott's pack is falling apart around his ears, and yet apparently the biggest problem in their little world is that Stiles can't sleep. Stiles does not feel good about this.

The doorbell interrupts what had turned out to be quite the epic shoe hunt but, really, he’s grateful for the break. Or at least, he is until he heads down the stairs to grab the door, trips over a stuff animal of some kind, bashes his head on the wall and barely manages to catch himself from falling down the entire flight of stairs. As with all things, Stiles would like to state, for the record, that this is Scott’s fault.

 

Or: Scott and Stiles are raising seven children. Derek is the entertainer they hire for a birthday party (not a clown though, he's very specific on that fact.)

Stiles doesn’t know what to expect after they complete the ritual, after his father’s checked over at the hospital and released a few hours later, after Stiles is back at home, sitting on the end of his bed with a heaviness in his chest that’s never been there before.

Stiles leaned on Derek more than he walked out to the car, but they got there eventually, and it wasn’t long before Derek was trying to shove a drunk, apparently boneless teenager into his car.

“Jesus,” he muttered, cupping his hand over the top of Stiles’ head to guide him. “Don’t give yourself a concussion now, idiot.”

He folded the kid into the car and buckled him in, trying to avoid the soft skin of Stiles’ stomach where his shirt had rode up. Bad enough he had the Sheriff’s drunk, underage son in his car. He didn’t need to be hard while he drove home.

God, he was so going to get arrested again.

On Friday night Stiles has plans to go to Scott's house, play video games, eat junkfood, not think about Derek, and pass out sometime around four in the morning.

The universe, as it turns out, has other plans.

He doesn't make it to Scott's.

Beacon Hills is the kind of small town where everybody knows everybody, and what everybody knows is that surly diner owner Derek Hale and free spirited single dad Stiles Stilinski have been in love with each other for years. If only they knew it too.
