Amazon now has more than 100,000 robots.
The claims about not losing jobs are...fairly unbelievable. I strongly suspect that at the least they aren't hiring as many temporary workers, or replacing people who leave through normal turnover.

tl;dr - outsourcing puts a cap on people's movement, as you have to go from one organisation to another, rather than being able to rise through the ranks.

It's a "divide and conquer" move, which makes it possible to crush the people at the bottom, because they aren't part of the same "us" as the people further up the economic chain.
