Pity was the worst emotion that Peter had gotten used to over the years. He could never figure out if the pity was worse than the jealousy that he felt to watch everyone else's happiness.

In the first grade, he had his first encounter with what the teacher had called the ‘Soul Markings’. They had appeared on a student in the middle of the class. Peter could still remember it quite vividly. It was a poorly drawn flower with pink and purple flower petals and an orange center. It had been all over the place and most of the lines didn’t connect, but they were still there. Even though the teacher told the class that they were completely normal and something for each person to enjoy on their own; the remainder of the class was spent talking about the soul markings or drawing on each other’s arms.

One moment he was sitting in front of the fire where they were camped in the forest at the edge of The Lonely Mountain, clicking his tongue at Fili and Kili chucking bits of bread at Balin, the next they were under attack.
It all happened so fast, Azog and his Orcs embarking on a brutal slaughter before they had the chance to raise a sword in defence, and Bilbo somehow managed to claw his way through the forest and to the foot of the Lonely Mountain where he comes face-to-face with… Thorin… who Bilbo was certain just had his head chopped off a moment ago.
To make matters worse, he doesn’t seem to recognise him. And Erebor is… well, not a charred and blackened empty tomb inhabited by a dragon.
And yeah, Bilbo’s fairly certain this isn’t going to end well.

Thorin Brandybuck, just recently come of age, still lives in his family’s smial in Buckland, with his parents and two younger siblings. Thorin is an odd duck amongst his relations and neighbours-- unsociable, grumpy, shy, and awkward. And beyond that, he looks rather strange even for a Bucklander, strongly favouring the thick, dark haired build of his Stoorish blood.

It defies all sense and reason why Bilbo Baggins, an exemplar of all the respectable traits Thorin lacked, would ever desire a friendship with him.

Bilbo, as Thorin discovers, is not always as sensible as he appears.

Bilbo starts to realize that his possessions are slowly going missing. He assumes it's all a big prank, because the Tooks and Brandybucks are absolute horrid when it comes to pranks, but he'll get them back in due time.
Then his favorite armchair goes missing, the one his father loved, and he cannot let it stand. That's when Bilbo finds out that the dwarves have slyly been taking Bilbo's things and moving them to Erebor by command of Thorin. Bilbo thinks Thorin is an absolute idiot, but his father's armchair does look quite nice next to the hearth in Thorin's bedchambers.
Then: Thorin is not very good at dirty talk, which is a shame, as Bilbo wants him to try it. He turns to Dwalin for advice.
