The Quiet Man
"So." She rests her hands over her notes, her fingers flat against the page. They're slim and warm brown. She has pretty, oval fingernails, always clean. Not bitten or ragged, with no bits of torn skin around the edges. No visible cuticles. She's fastidious, I'd say. She doesn't work with her hands. She doesn't do any heavy lifting, nothing dusty or dirty. If you were here, you would say: you hardly need to deduce the profession of your therapist, John.

I know, Sherlock. I know.

It's just easier to be here if I only look at her hands. If I try and think like you do. Like you did.

The Man No One Liked
"Mister Holmes!"

Sherlock heard him of course, hard not to the man was so bullish, but still he didn't look up from the hat he was brushing. It dangled from his fingers, almost falling until another fingertip came into the round and brought it expertly back up. He crouched over it from his perch on the wooden bench; the meticulous back and forth of the little hairbrush whispered at him as he brought up the nap of the felt; just so, just so, just so. Still he didn't answer. He lifted the hat to eye-level, straightened his cracking spine, aligned the brim, and made sure it was even. He felt Anderson's glare and sighed, finally deigning to break the silence he had managed to eke out for a good three hours.

"Mister Anderson."

He placed slight emphasis on the sibilance in the title, drew out the last syllable of the surname just a fraction. The drawl was almost unintentional; if pushed, he could say it was a speech impediment but frankly, he liked to annoy Anderson and that was one of the most efficient ways to do it. Out of the corner of his eye he saw Anderson bristle, making fists and clenching his jaw, and this made him smile. He'd have called him other names, had done in the past, but even though Mrs. Turner was not around, Sherlock bowed to convention. He could do without another talking to tonight when he had a special treat waiting, hidden under the loose floorboard in his room. As first footman Anderson was technically Sherlock's superior, but everyone knew that Sherlock was better at his duties as well as being far more handsome.

He arranged his features into the impassive countenance he used when he knew something degrading was about to be asked of him. "Yes?" he asked, bent over again and went back to brushing the hat as if nothing Anderson could say made the least bit of difference to him.

"You have valet duties tonight."

The brush stilled. Sherlock looked up at the other footman. He thought he'd been prepared for whatever he was going to be asked to do, but this was so much more… interesting. Most of the guests who came for the weekend had their own valets. Why was this guest without one?

"For whom?" The hat dangled precariously from his finger tips, almost forgotten.

Anderson pulled a piece of paper from his breast pocket. Sherlock scoffed. A true butler, the breed to which Anderson could only aspire, would have all the names of the weekend's guests engraved on his brain.

"Watson. John Watson. A doctor, apparently."

Cooperative Principle
It’s called the Foot-in-the-door Technique, and at St. Bart’s, the foot in question belongs to one Sherlock Holmes. John was warned on his first day, but having already seen poor Molly Hooper flustered and running about for the man, the warning was unnecessary.

Rule One: Whatever Sherlock Holmes asks for, do not give it to him.

big bang fic: masterpost
HELLO HELLO BIG BANG FIC.

So this was really enjoyable to write — I mean, I love this 'verse, it's great fun, and I'll probably write more in it if I don't get derailed (again) — and of course consulting_detective's fantastic art makes it about twenty-five times better than I could have imagined. We've had five brilliant months of putting this up together and getting to know each other better (oh, shut up), so this was really a fantastic challenge. I think it's the beginning of a lasting partnership, us.

Without further ado, I give you:

Title: Backlight, Beyond Compare (the BBC 'verse)
Author/Artist:jumperfucker /consulting_detective
Pairing: Holmes/Watson (ACD!AU)
Rating: NC-17
Warnings: Violence, gore, serial killings, very graphic sexual situations, mention of drug use. Potentially unhealthy and codependent relationship.
Word Count: 61,563. IKR.
Disclaimer: Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson were created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Beta thanks: to sarah_s, for thwacking me over the head when I was being a Stupid White Male; storm_ford, for getting my wonky plot structure to hang together; consulting_detective, for everything.
Summary: John Watson is an danger-junkie ex-army medic with a psychosomatic limp and a blog. Sherlock Holmes is his genius flatmate with an addiction to mobile phones, nicotine patches, and bloody crime scenes. Together, they fight crime. [modern!day AU]

Ah, I love it. Look at how they work together! completing each other sentences, Holmes' hand on Watson's shoulder as soon as Watson looks at him. They complete each other so well.

They do it again in the workshop. Watson just... anticipates Holmes' questions, and then he asks them instead. They're so married. So, so married.

Hello, my darlings!

I am quite new to your quaint little community and its pretty little rules — hullo, Moddie dear! — but I'm told I ought to pay my respects to the members of this remarkable fandom. After all, you will come to know me much better in upcoming days!

Now, then. I am also told that there are some... shall we say, recalcitrant people among you all. Surely that will not do at all. Take salts_theway, for instance. Very unladylike, you are, my dear, you might need yourself a little boyfriend to tame down your truculent urges. Oh, and miss_toby! poor little mouse, always so riddled with uncertainty. And such a dreadful lack of confidence. Always thinking you are not good enough for anyone — and quite right, you are! surely you didn't think your ridiculous little crush on consulting_detective would come to any profit, did you?

And all of you worshipping jumperfucker's silly stories. Oh, I could tell you so much about little Johnny's life that would appall you all. Should I indulge in the pleasure, do you think?

And then, oh yes. There is the case of consulting_detective. Boo.

It has always been difficult, has it not, to be the cleverest man in the room? to be bullied because of your delightful brains? oh, you are quite the Sherlock Holmes. A little child prodigy, looking up to the stories of his youth, never taken seriously by anyone. Do you know, where I come from, we call it a hero complex. What did it feel like when you first tried to gatecrash a crime scene and the police told you kindly to shove off?

I have giggled at your antics with sweet Johnny, you know. He does make quite a good little pet, does he not? so in awe of you, so inspiring. Lovely, truly. Too bad he is not quite on par with you on the intelligence level, but then nobody ever is, is there?

Anywho. Just wanted to pay my respects, my dears. See you again very soon!

Thanks for the mousies at wank_report for the beginning of this account; I filled in the rest.

Right. consulting_detective. Best damn fanartist in Sherlock Holmes fandom, makes you take one look and jump under the cold shower, master snarker, deadpan cynist, canon lover, sneers at everyone who's in his way, etcetcetc. If you'd like reminders of his previous antics, see here, here, and here. Matchmaker, Matchmaker
Sherlock leaned against the counter at the pub, took a sip of his Brandy and studied his soon to be client Mr. Carlisle. He sat at a table by himself in the corner nursing a scotch and soda, a willowy man in a well-worn navy suit, unremarkable aside from a vivid shock of red hair.

John took a sip of his beer and asked, “So why are you shadowing that guy?”

Sherlock’s face broke into a wide grin. “You noticed!”

“I may not be a genius of deduction, but I’m not an idiot. You ask me if I want to see the game, and if that’s not bizarre enough, you take us by taxi to a pub thirty minutes from our flat. You haven’t complained about being bored since we’ve gotten here, even though I know you have no interest in rugby and delete information about the teams whenever someone explains it to you. So this must be a case.” John’s lips turned downward in a minimal frown. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“It’s simply reconnaissance. Nothing dangerous.”

Five Years Prior
Lestrade isn't sure what exactly he did to deserve Sherlock Holmes. He beat up his little brother a few times as a kid, stole a packet of crisps from a store at 14, and cheated on a girl who said she loved him right after he got out of uni. None of these seem anything close to the colossal misdeed it would take to earn Sherlock Holmes as your karmic retribution. Lestrade couldn't recall committing genocide at any point in his life.

"Look, you cannot just come waltzing in demanding to see the body two days after I - are you high?" Lestrade suddenly notices that the man is shaking.

Sherlock scowls and plunges his hands into his pockets. "I told you, the rate of decomposition is slow enough that I will still be able to gather the necessary information. And it's not important."

"I can't just order the morgue to - hang on, that's not a no!"

Sherlock Holmes is an Oscar winner in the midst of a career slump. John Watson is an Everyman actor trapped in the rom-com ghetto. When they are cast as a gay couple in a new independent drama, will they surprise each other? Will their on-screen romance make its way into the real world?
