That place I always just referred to as "Cost Plus," which Trader Joe's largely displaced, for me (random cheap wine and chocolate), but which becomes relevant every decade or so, for some reason. Maybe it's time for a return visit.

The Nasty Bits: Rabbit and Garlic Soup Recipe | Serious Eats
In this adventure, Chichi Wang's attempt at a Fergus Henderson recipe (rabbit, garlic, shallots) is disappointing. She salvages it by hybridizing with a Julia Child recipe. Both original recipes sound interesting in their own rights.

Buttonwillow's Best Barbeque Restaurant. Take-out. BBQ Sauce.
If you must travel the 5 between Northern and Southern California, this is a good place to eat. Really enjoyed my sandwich last time, and even did the tourist thing and bought a bottle of their sauce to bring home.
I used to hold out for Harris Ranch, until I walked in, sat down, and amused myself reading and checking my watch while four employees spent half an hour laughing and playing around with each other without ever acknowledging my presence. (I guess I was in quality assurance testing mode.) Half an hour was enough of that. I walked out and haven't been back.

The Nasty Bits: Tacos de Buche (Pork Stomach Tacos) | Serious Eats : Recipes
Every time I search for help in cooking some weird, leftover animal part, or in understanding what I just ate, Chichi Wang's name comes up. I love this woman. I could have a passionate relationship with her, based only on reading and eating. Since first bookmarking this, I've followed the recipe (pretty much; see http://www.flickr.com/photos/98849002@N00/11794685445/ et al.). There may be a better way to tenderize the meat. On the other hand, I cooked it for closer the minimum time Chichi recommends, and it was OK. Maybe another hour of simmering would have made a noticeable difference. Flavor was in the zone: something I can work with and tweak to my own taste. I'll refine this.
