Gaia Bees | A new approach to living with bees
"Gaia Bees was founded to honor the essential role of bees in sustaining life on our planet. Our mission is to ensure the health and survival of bees, and thus, all beings.  Gaia Bees advocates for a fundamental shift in apiculture and develops new practices toward a bee-centric approach.
Our work focuses on three areas: installation and care of “landscape apiaries”; research and development of sustainable apiculture strategies; offering educational/training programs."
Per Erik Knutzen, who absorbed a paradigm of honey bees colonies as superorganisms from Gaia Bees' Michael Thiele.

The Sky Hive Is a Towering High Rise for Bees in Downtown Maastricht | Inhabitat - Green Design, Innovation, Architecture, Green Building
"Bee Collective’s Sky Hive is a towering yellow urban beehive located in downtown Maastricht. The prototype was created to help support urban beekeeping, while keeping the bees safely out of reach from passersby. The adjustable beehive stands atop a tall pole, creating a presence at a public park, while being far enough away to mitigate fears of bee stings."

Beekeeping with the Warré hive -- Lifts
"As the Warré hive is normally extended by nadiring boxes, i.e. inserting them under the growing brood nest, some heavy lifting can be avoided by making a mechanical lift according to one of the designs shown on this page. The originator of the Warré hive lift is Marc Gatineau (France) who used an action essentially the same as the guillotine formerly used for executions in France. More recent designs, though closely similar in principle, are less obviously guillotine-like."
Good thing. Urban beekeeping has enough PR problems as it is.

I can't believe I just ordered something from this place, with looks like Trumpista Discount Mail Order Central. But hear me out. I hear good beekeeping practice is to have a reasonably airtight metal container to put one's smoker in after use, for fire safety. A cylindrical galvanized container is economical, but incredibly bulky, given that one is sizing the cylinder to accommodate a box-like envelope. Most of the enclosed volume will be empty. An ammo box, on the other hand, offers a gasket-sealed, rectangular inner volume, not to mention a bad-ass external affect--and room to affix a fire extinguisher, as well.

Expanding elephant populations raid farms. Driving them off endangers both people and elephants. Elephants are terrified of bees. A light bulb turned on for zoologist Dr. Lucy King: Behold the beehive fence! Elephants steer clear, no one gets hurt, farmers have another cash crop. Donations welcome.
