The US definition of a hate crime
Possibly interesting to some people reading this, I'm curious how this differs from the UK definition. Interesting that some major stuff doesn't get prosecuted as such, because they're already going to get life imprisonment or execution, and the prosecutor doesn't want to have to prove the hate crime element as well

How do you counter-protest those calling for less police brutality, less deaths of black people to them?
Get a bunch of white guys to wear hoodies saying "I can breathe", apparently. Seriously, what the fuck? How do they think that makes any kind of point bar privilege?

No, Texas Law Does Not Say You Can Shoot an Escort Who Refuses to Have Sex
Analysis piece argues that the jury likely acquit because the defence argued that shooter fired at tires, and a fragment hit the escort, making it manslaughter not murder, with neither prosecution or judge giving the jury the option to convict on that.

When my mother was dying, her knowledge of the health system meant she could make her choices with open eyes and understanding. And I think we are better at having The Conversation here than they are in the US. But it's still something worth considering.
