Why be president when you could be pope? | FT Alphaville
The post says outright that Zuckerberg wants to use his network to repair tears in the social fabric of the world.

Such a comprehensive push, one that disintegrates borders in the pursuit of social conformity harmony, has traditionally been attempted by religions rather than governments or political movements. Even the attempted reach of Communism was limited in comparison. Why favour only the oppressed proletariat when, with Facebook in place of religion, you can recruit Labour and Capital alike?

In other words: You can be the president. He’d rather be the pope.

Hosting Mark Zuckerberg | Melissa Sigmond | Pulse | LinkedIn
I HAD THE distinct privilege to host Mark Zuckerberg and other Facebook leaders for Sunday brunch and a tour of the Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim (KKBE) campus here in Charleston last weekend.

Discretion has been a hallmark of my professional life. Over the course of my career, I have worked with rock stars, movie stars, Wall Street moguls, and world renown philanthropists — however, post visit, I now have the opportunity to share a bit about my time with Mark, who is perhaps the most remarkable and interesting person I have ever met — which is saying something.
