Microsoft announces Teams for consumers, Skype daily active users up 70% to 40 million | VentureBeat
As part of its Microsoft 365 for consumers news today, the company announced Microsoft Teams for consumers and new Skype metrics. Skype has passed 40 million daily active users, an increase of 70% month over month. Furthermore, Skype to Skype calling minutes are up 220% month over month. Less than two weeks ago, Microsoft shared that Teams usage exploded 110% in the past four months. Many of today’s new Office feature announcements have tie-ins with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and working from home trend. But Skype and Microsoft Teams are arguably the most relevant as people look to connect online.

Microsoft 365 bundles Office 365 with AI and cloud-powered features | VentureBeat
Microsoft today announced that on April 21, Office 365 will become Microsoft 365, or “the subscription for your life.” The new suite builds on Office 365 with “new AI, rich content and templates, and cloud-powered experiences.” On April 21, Microsoft 365 Personal and Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions (up to six people) will replace Office 365 Personal and Office 365 Home. The pricing will remain the same: $7 per month and $10 per month, respectively. The Microsoft 365 plans include everything already in Office 365, including desktop Office apps, 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage per person, 60 Skype minutes, security features, technical support, plus the new Office features also announced today. Those features are spread across Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams. (Even Edge is getting new consumer features, though the browser doesn’t require a Microsoft 365 subscription, of course.)

Microsoft says hackers are attacking Windows users with a new unpatched bug | TechCrunch
Microsoft says attackers are exploiting a previously undisclosed security vulnerability found in all supported versions of Windows, including Windows 10.

But the software giant said there is currently no patch for the vulnerability.

The security flaw, which Microsoft deems “critical” — its highest severity rating — is found in how Windows handles and renders fonts, according to the advisory posted Monday. The bug can be exploited by tricking a victim into opening a malicious document. Once the document is opened — or viewed in Windows Preview — an attacker can remotely run malware, such as ransomware, on a vulnerable device.

PlayStation 5 backward compatibility: Almost 100 PS4 games available at launch - Polygon
Cerny said the internal logic of the PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles is present in the PlayStation 5, but that’s not without challenges; some game code “just can’t handle” the boosted frequencies of the PlayStation 5, he said. Cerny said that boost is “truly massive,” so games must be tested on a “title-by-title basis.” But, that testing is going well, Cerny said.

Microsoft orchestrates coordinated takedown of Necurs botnet | ZDNet
"We were then able to accurately predict over six million unique domains that would be created in the next 25 months," said today Tom Burt, Microsoft Vice President for Customer Security & Trust.

Breaking the DGA allowed Microsoft and its industry partners to create a comprehensive list of future Necurs C&C server domains that they can now block and prevent the Necurs team from registering.

Furthermore, Microsoft's legal team also intervened and obtained a court order last week, on March 5, granting Microsoft control over existing Necurs domains that were being hosted in the US.

New AMD Side Channel Attacks Discovered, Impacts Zen Architecture (AMD Responds) | Tom's Hardware
AMD responded for our request for more information and says there are no new mitigations required, as this issue is covered by the existing side channel attack mitigations.

The researchers do not agree, stating that this vulnerability is still active. Until the two sides agree it isn't possible to ascertain which viewpoint is more accurate. We'll update as necessary and keep an eye out for a CVE.

A major new Intel processor flaw could defeat encryption and DRM protections - The Verge
Security researchers are warning of a major new security flaw inside Intel processors, and it could defeat hardware-based encryption and DRM protections. The flaw exists at the hardware level of modern Intel processors released in the last five years, and could allow attackers to create special malware (like keyloggers) that runs at the hardware level and is undetectable by traditional antivirus systems. Intel’s latest 10th Gen processors are not vulnerable, though.

Following the update to the new Cortana experience, Cortana skills will no longer work. Microsoft states in its announcement post of the upcoming update that "some consumer skills including music, connected home and third-party skills will no longer be available in the updated Cortana experience in Windows 10."
