Whites Account for Under Half of Births in U.S. - NYTimes.com
Whites still represent the single largest share of all births, at 49.6 percent, and are an overwhelming majority in the population as a whole, at 63.4 percent. But they are aging, causing a tectonic shift in American demographics. The median age for non-Hispanic whites is 42 — meaning the bulk of women are moving out of their prime childbearing years.

Latinos, on the other hand, are squarely within their peak fertility, with a median age of 27, said Jeffrey Passel, senior demographer at the Pew Hispanic Center. Between 2000 and 2010, there were more Hispanic births in the United States than there were arriving Hispanic immigrants, he said.

The CAQDAS Networking Project: help with compuer assisted qualitative data analysis [University of Surrey]
"WHAT IS THE CAQDAS NETWORKING PROJECT?
We provide practical support, training and information in the use of a range of software programs designed to assist qualitative data analysis. We provide platforms for debate concerning the methodological and epistemological issues arising from the use of such software packages and conduct research into methodological applications of CAQDAS under our new research project; Qualitative Innovations in CAQDAS (QUIC). QUIC builds on the work the CAQDAS Networking Project have been undertaking since 1994 to further explore technological and methodological developments in qualitative software and provide additional training and capacity building opportunities to fill identified gaps in support for software users.

We have no commercial links to any software developer or supplier."

Past funding through projects, currently no external funding.

The Web Is a Customer Service Medium (Ftrain.com)
That is the point that I am trying to make. The web is not, despite the desires of so many, a publishing medium. The web is a customer service medium. “Intense moderation” in a customer service medium is what “editing” was for publishing.

Big Data | Neal Caren
I’m publishing a series of tutorials that teach the fundamentals of quantitative text analysis for social scientists. The emphasis is on application. How can you collect and analyze thousands of web pages or Tweets? What are the best practices for turning words into numbers?

The tutorials are designed for people who may be familiar with a standard statistical program, such as Stata or SPSS, or perhaps a qualitative analysis program like NVivo, but who haven’t done any quantitative text analysis or used Python. Python is an open-source computer language that is quite popular amongst computer programmers. Computational linguistics and computer scientists have developed a large number of add-ons for Python that make it a popular choice for quantitative text analysis.
