Editorial: How AirPods and Shortcuts shifted Apple's Siri story and bl
Two years ago there was no shortage of media coverage imagining that Apple's entire hardware business was about to be eclipsed by a new voice-first world where Amazon's Alexa, Google's Assistant and perhaps even Microsoft Cortana would shift consumer and developer attention away from iPhone apps and toward stationary Internet-connected microphones running ambient "skills." Why didn't that actually happen?

How to stop Siri's voice reverting to a robot on iOS
Your iPhone Ìprobably] ran low on space and iOS ditched the newer Siri voice to save room.
[…] Siri's voice takes between 150MB and 500MB yet we have seen this on iPhones with 8GB space free. What's probably happened is that […] you've cleared something off the iPhone. Maybe […] around the time of an iOS update where the phone temporarily needs more room to install the new version.

Shortcuts 2.2 Brings New Apple Notes Actions, Travel Time Enhancements – MacStories
Shortcuts 2.2, the second major update to Apple's automation app following October's 2.1 release, has been released on the App Store today. The new version of Shortcuts, which has been available to developers for testing via TestFlight for several weeks now, brings a variety of smaller refinements and bug fixes; more importantly, it extends Shortcuts' integration with one of Apple's most popular built-in apps: Notes. Additionally, Shortcuts 2.2 builds upon the existing 'Get Travel Time' action (based on the Apple Maps framework) with new Magic Variables well suited for shortcuts that integrate with Siri.
For the past few weeks, I've been building advanced shortcuts that take advantage of the new actions for Notes and Maps, which I'm going to explain and share in this article. The new shortcuts are also available through the MacStories Shortcuts Archive, which now features a dedicated Apple Notes section as well. Let's dive in.

Apple's second-gen AirPods include hands-free Siri, longer talk time, wireless charging, and more | iMore
The best wireless earphones on the market just got even better.
Apple just took the wraps off its second-generation AirPods. The update to the company's true wireless earphones adds support for "Hey Siri" and include an all-new Apple-designed H1 chip for more efficient performance, faster connection times, and better battery life. The new AirPods also come with either a standard charging case or the new Wireless Charging Case.
Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said:
AirPods delivered a magical wireless experience and have become one of the most beloved products we've ever made. They connect easily with all of your devices and provide crystal clear sound and intuitive, innovative control of your music and audio. The world's best wireless headphones just got even better with the new AirPods. They are powered by the new Apple-designed H1 chip which brings an extra hour of talk time, faster connections, hands-free 'Hey Siri' and the convenience of a new wireless battery case.
The new H1 chip features a custom audio architecture for a better audio synchronization and allows AirPods to provide up to 50 percent more talk time compared to the first-gen. It also enables faster connection times and more seamless switching when moving between iOS devices. AirPods now feature "Hey Siri" for the first time allowing you to issue voice commands without the need to double-tap on the side of one of your AirPods.

Apple Announces New AirPods with ‘Hey Siri’ Support, New H1 Chip, Wireless Charging Case Option – MacStories
In a surprise announcement following a string of daily releases this week, Apple today announced a major update to AirPods, the company's wireless earbuds. As widely speculated over the past several months, the new generation AirPods come with support for hands-free 'Hey Siri' activation, feature improved performance over the original AirPods (which launched in late 2016), and support wireless charging (using the Qi standard) via an optional case.
“AirPods delivered a magical wireless experience and have become one of the most beloved products we’ve ever made. They connect easily with all of your devices, and provide crystal clear sound and intuitive, innovative control of your music and audio,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The world’s best wireless headphones just got even better with the new AirPods. They are powered by the new Apple-designed H1 chip which brings an extra hour of talk time, faster connections, hands-free ‘Hey Siri’ and the convenience of a new wireless battery case.”
While the second-generation AirPods share the same design of the originals, their wireless architecture has been completely rebuilt with the inclusion of Apple's new H1 chip, which is debuting today. Apple has not provided in-depth technical details about the underpinnings of the new H1 chip, focusing instead on the practical benefits of AirPods' new "custom audio architecture". First off, the H1 chip allows AirPods to deliver "up to 50 percent more talk time compared to first generation AirPods". Additionally, switching between devices while listening to music on an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch is now up to two times faster, while connection time for phone calls is 1.5x faster compared to the original AirPods.

Apple’s updated AirPods are here, cost $199 with new wireless charging case | Ars Technica
Existing AirPod owners can buy the wireless charging case for $79, too.
After announcing new iPads and iMacs earlier this week, Apple has released details about its next-generation AirPods. The new wireless earbuds, which are available for preorder today starting at $159, come with an updated, Apple-designed chip, more battery life, and "Hey Siri" voice-command support. Apple also debuted a new wireless charging case for AirPods that can be charged with any Qi wireless charger.
We didn't expect Apple to radically redesign the AirPods this time around, and they look nearly identical to the previous model. Inside, however, is a new H1 chip that Apple designed specifically for headphones. The company claims the new chip will provide up to 50 percent more talk time than previous models, faster connect times when switching between iPhone, iPad, and other Apple host devices, and general performance improvements.
The new H1 chip also lets AirPods listen for the "Hey Siri" voice command. Previously, users had to touch the side of one AirPod before speaking a command to Siri, Apple's virtual assistant. Now, users can just say the waking command before asking Siri to do things like adjust the volume, play a different song, and more.
