The Secret Language of Ships | Hakai Magazine
Not many people have an opportunity to get this close to a container ship. Those who do may see icons that impart important information. For example, those black brackets to the right of the company name indicate where the tugboat is supposed to push.

Military Drones Prove Vulnerable to GPS Jamming - Apr 2018
"Maritime security experts have warned for years about the hazards that simple GPS jamming methods could pose to merchant shipping. According to American defense officials, the Russian military is deploying a weaponized form of GPS jamming that is effectively blocking some U.S. drone aircraft operations over Syria - and is even affecting drones equipped with anti-jamming technology. As more and more operators contemplate the deployment of autonomous vessels and aircraft in the maritime space, the vulnerability of high-specification military hardware to GPS jamming may pose a cautionary tale. "

The Secret Language of Ships
Tugboat crews routinely encounter what few of us will ever see. They easily read a vessel’s size, shape, function, and features, while deciphering at a glance the mysterious numbers, letters, and symbols on a ship’s hull. To non-mariners, the markings look like hieroglyphs. For those in the know, they speak volumes about a particular ship and also about the shipping industry.

What to Do With Amazon Packages You Didn't Order
"If you don’t know the recipient, well, Amazon gave you a present. According to the Federal Trade Commission, any merchandise mailed to you that you did not order may be legally kept as a free gift. That goes for Amazon or any other retailer who ships goods, and includes any incorrect items mailed to your address, even if the package is correctly addressed to you."

How my latest hard disk arrived... : DataHoarder
see comment by mattdahack:

"In my expert opinion of shipping and receiving hundreds of hard drives over the last 5 years, I have never had one come damaged off the truck. Most modern hard drives have a shock tolerance of at least 200 to 250 g's. Especially when the drives read and write heads are locked into place. There is no damage coming from anything that would happen to that drive During shipping. Think about it for a second, 250Gs is equivalent to a stopping force of 2500m/s/s (that's 2.5kilometres per second per second). If you could accelerate something at that acceleration for 1 second, it would be travelling at 2.5km/s - which is 3600*2.5=9000 km/h."
