The Hill: Watchdogs want 'oathgate' probe
The Hill has an article on Sunlight's desire for a official probe into the Pete Sessions fundraiser on the Capitol grounds.

"The Sunlight Foundation also said Fitzpatrick might have broken the rules.

“The Office of Congressional Ethics and the House Ethics Committee should determine whether or not this type of activity is in violation of the House Ethics rules,” the Foundation’s Paul Blumenthal wrote in a blog post. “From this end, it appears as though this fundraiser was not in meeting with the rules as laid out in the [House] manual.”

Blumenthal said in an interview that swearing-in ceremonies "can be paid for with campaign funds, but they cannot solicit campaign funds."

Talking Points Memo: Sleazy But Legal? Sessions Swearing-In/Fundraiser SNAFU Skirts The Line
Talking Points Memo has a blog post on the Pete Sessions swearing-in fundraiser that mentions the Sunlight Foundation.

"Today, Democrats sent around a post from the Sunlight Foundation watchdog group, which claimed the event did break House rules. The issue, according to Sunlight, was the money Fitzpatrick solicited in the invitation.

From the post:

Other lawmakers held celebrations on Capitol Hill that did not include solicitations for money in their invitations. Dan Boren, Sean Duffy, Bill Huizenga, Reid Ribble, and Roy Blunt all held swearing in receptions in congressional offices that did not include an ask for campaign contributions. Blunt also held an event at the Library of Congress that did not solicit money. "

Huffington Post: Did Rep Who Skipped Swearing In For Fundraiser Break The Law?
The Huffington Post has an article on Pete Sessions absence at his swearing-in that quotes Paul Blumenthal of the Sunlight Foundation.

"The Sunlight Foundation is calling for the House ethics committee and the Office of Congressional Ethics to investigate whether Fitzpatrick broke the rules by hosting the fundraiser, and whether Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas), head of the National Republican Congressional Committee, also broke the rules by booking the room and attending the event.

"Other lawmakers held celebrations on Capitol Hill that did not include solicitations for money in their invitations," notes Sunlight's Paul Blumenthal. "Dan Boren, Sean Duffy, Bill Huizenga, Reid Ribble, and Roy Blunt all held swearing in receptions in congressional offices that did not include an ask for campaign contributions. Blunt also held an event at the Library of Congress that did not solicit money."

Dallas Morning News - Trailblazers Blog: House set to fix Pete Sessions oath-taking noshow snafu; ethics questions raised
Dallas Morning News - Trailblazers Blog has a post on Rep. Pete Session and his possible ethics violations that mentions the Sunlight Foundation.

"Meanwhile, the Sunlight Foundation, a campaign finance watchdog group, asserts that Sessions and Fitzpatrick also violated ethics rules by using congressional facilities for a campaign fund-raiser. Although Fitzpatrick's office insists it wasn't a campaign fund-raising event, the invitation asked for at least $30, to cover bus costs from suburban Philadelphia, but also allowed donors to contribute more, with lots of disclaimers about the rules pertaining to federal campaign donations."

Earmark Critic gets millions for "airship designers" that know nothing about science or engineering (but are friends of a congressman...)

Yet Ferguson acknowledged that neither he nor his father has a background in the defense or aviation industries, nor any engineering or research expertise.
