Researchers hope new vaccine could improve odds for pancreatic cancer
What it can do very efficiently is deliver the protein, the pancreatic cancer protein, to the immune system and say 'Hey T-cells, recognize me'

Nab-Paclitaxel Plus Gemcitabine Misses DFS Endpoint in Pancreatic Cancer
he adjuvant combination of nab-paclitaxel (Abraxane) and gemcitabine was not found to improve disease-free survival (DFS) compared with gemcitabine alone, as confirmed by independent radiological review, in patients with pancreatic cancer, according to topline findings of the phase III APACT trial (NCT01964430).1

Dougan Discusses Augmenting T-Cell Activity in Pancreatic Cancer
How do you kill each and every last cancer cell? I'm not sure we can do this with standard chemotherapy or targeted therapies. We've been thinking about using T cells as a way to find micrometastases. This is what the immune system does best; it patrols the body, it surveys for danger, and it has long-term memory. It would be able to find all of these sites of dormant tumor cells that eventually grow and form metastases.

Leveraging Limited Data in Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer
Although both regimens carry added toxicities, FOLFIRINOX and the combination of gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel (Abraxane) have each been shown to improve survival over gemcitabine alone for patients with metastatic pancreatic cancer, said Damian Laber, MD.

Immunotherapy Study of Evofosfamide in Combination With Ipilimumab - Full Text View - ClinicalTrials.gov
An immunotherapy study combining ipilimumab and evofosfamide for the treatment of patients with confirmed metastatic or locally advanced prostate cancer, metastatic pancreatic cancer, melanoma or human papillomavirus (HPV) negative squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck that have failed to respond to standard therapy, progressed despite standard therapy, for which standard therapy does not offer the potential for increased surviva

Parker Institute touts early results in pancreatic cancer trial
They combined standard-of-care chemotherapy with two different immunotherapies: An experimental antibody that activates immune cells, and an approved PD-1 checkpoint inhibitor that takes the brakes off the immune system.

The trial enrolled 30 patients with previously untreated, metastatic pancreatic cancer. All were treated with gemcitabine and Abraxane — the chemotherapy regimen considered standard of care for this type of cancer — plus an experimental antibody called APX005M. Half the patients also received Opdivo, the checkpoint inhibitor from Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Tumor-associated immune cells hinder frontline chemotherapy drug in pancreatic cancer
"When we think of personalized medicine, we often think about what's going inside of the malignant cells, what specific genetic mutations a patient's tumor may have," Lyssiotis says. "In our case, we're thinking about, 'What does this tumor look like as a whole? What does its ecosystem of cells look like?' And hopefully we can use an understanding of the interaction between different types of cells to develop new approaches to treatment."

Balance of two enzymes linked to pancreatic cancer survival
What's more, that ratio -- high PHLPP1/low PKC -- correlated with poor prognoses: no pancreatic patient with low PKC in the database survived longer than five-and-a-half years. On the flip side, 50 percent of the patients with low PHLPP1/high PKC survived longer than that.

CA19-9 elevation as an indication to start salvage treatment in surveillance after pancreatic cancer resection - ScienceDirect
CA19-9 is the most commonly used tumor marker in the diagnosis, prognosis and surveillance of pancreatic cancer. We hypothesized that CA19-9 elevation can be taken as an indication to start salvage treatment in surveillance after resection

Pancreatic Cancer: Practice Essentials, Background, Pathophysiology
Pancreatic cancer is the tenth most common cancer in men and the ninth most common in women, but it is the fourth leading cause of cancer deaths, being responsible for 7% of all cancer-related deaths in men and 8% in women. Approximately 75% of all pancreatic carcinomas occur within the head or neck of the pancreas, 15-20% occur in the body of the pancreas, and 5-10% occur in the tail. See the image below.

Pancreatic acinar cell regeneration following copper deficiency-induced pancreatic necrosis. - PubMed - NCBI
Copper deficiency causes the pancreas to shrink to 30% in size. Copper supplementation causes it to regenerate.

This may be because of the large amount of endoplasmic reticulum and golgi in the pancreas due to its role in secreting a large number of substances. The ER and golgi are fragmented in cholesterol deficiency and cholesterol metabolism would be definitely inhibited by a copper deficiency.
