How to Be an Anticapitalist Today
Give up the fantasy of smashing capitalism. Capitalism is not smashable, at least if you really want to construct an emancipatory future. You may personally be able to escape capitalism by moving off the grid and minimizing your involvement with the money economy and the market, but this is hardly an attractive option for most people, especially those with children, and certainly has little potential to foster a broader process of social emancipation.

If you are concerned about the lives of others, in one way or another you have to deal with capitalist structures and institutions. Taming and eroding capitalism are the only viable options. You need to participate both in political movements for taming capitalism through public policies and in socioeconomic projects of eroding capitalism through the expansion of emancipatory forms of economic activity.

We must renew an energetic progressive social democracy that not only neutralizes the harms of capitalism but also facilitates initiatives to build real utopias with the potential to erode the dominance of capitalism.

The Road From Thatcherism by Paola Subacchi - Project Syndicate
And yet in the homeland of the neoliberal revolution, neoliberalism failed to deliver stronger growth. Between 1980 and 1989, annual real (inflation-adjusted) GDP grew by 2.6% on average – just as it had between 1970 and 1979. What did change was output distribution, and not for the better. In the 1980s, per capita GDP barely increased, after having grown by around 50% between 1958 and 1973. The UK’s Gini coefficient (whereby 0 represents absolute equality and 1.0 means that a single person owns everything) rose from 0.25 in 1979 to 0.32 in 1992.

An Open Letter to Steven Pinker (and Bill Gates)
Real data on poverty has only been collected since 1981, by the World Bank. It is widely accepted among those who research global poverty that any data prior to 1981 is simply too sketchy to be useful, and going back to as early as 1820 is more or less meaningless.

Liberalism in Theory and Practice
On a basic level, I am a socialist because I simply cannot fathom reconciling myself to a society where so many needlessly suffer because of circumstances beyond their control; where human dignity is distributed on the basis of luck and a social caste system is allowed to permeate every aspect of daily life; and where all of this is considered perfectly normal and acceptable in a civilization that has split the atom and sent people to the Moon.

But while it would be nice to attribute everything about my politics to pure moral sentiment, it would be a lie. Because the less noble truth, if I’m honest with myself and the reader, is that something else has played a formative role in animating my politics and anchoring me on the Left: namely, a searing dislike for liberalism as the hegemonic outlook in our culture and a deep, abiding disdain towards the political class that so self-righteously upholds it.

Technoscience Rent: Toward a Theory of Rentiership for Technoscientific Capitalism - Kean Birch, 2019
Contemporary, technoscientific capitalism is characterized by the (re)configuration of a range of “things” (e.g., infrastructure, data, knowledge, bodies) as assets or capitalized property. Accumulation strategies have changed as a result of this assetization process. Rather than entrepreneurial strategies based on commodity production, technoscientific capitalism is increasingly underpinned by rentiership or the appropriation of value through ownership and control rights (e.g., intellectual property [IP]), monopoly conditions, and regulatory or market devices and practices (e.g., investment dispute courts, exclusivity agreements). While rentiership is often presented as a negative phenomenon (e.g., distorting markets, unearned income) in both neoclassical and Marxist political economy literatures—and much in between—in this paper, I conceptualize rentiership as a technoeconomic practice and process framed by insights from science and technology studies (STS). So, rather than a problematic “side effect” of capitalism, the concept of rentiership enables us to understand how different forms of value extraction constitute, and are constituted by, different forms of technoscience. This allows STS to contribute a distinctive analytical approach to ongoing debates in political economy about%2

Everything You Know About Global Order Is Wrong – Foreign Policy
"Everything You Know About Global Order Is Wrong -- Klaus Schwab, impresario of the World Economic Forum, released a manifesto in the run-up to this year’s annual meeting at Davos, Switzerland, in which he called for a contemporary equivalent to the postwar conferences that established the liberal international order."

This fits in with Tooze's recent statement that the people at Davos see neoliberalism as 'a positive sum game'. to this extent it fits well with centrist and even social democratic approaches to the distribution of wealth. on the right, trickle-down economics, in the centre, an essentially technocratic approach - 'there is a good way to run things that will generate wealth for everyone', on the social democratic left, 'we can redistribute the outcome of growth so that society benefits'.

Of these i'm by far the most sympathetic to the last, but the global financial crisis did badly shake the idea social democrats are able to guard against the depredations and instability of global capitalism/neoliberalism.
