Work up a sweat seeing beautiful flowers and plants at S.F.’s Conservatory of Flowers - LA Times
Greenhouses once were the playhouses of the rich; this glass-and-wood beauty was supposed to become part of a Santa Clara estate belonging to wealthy businessman James Lick. His death in 1876 ended the idea of a grand greenhouse, and it sat until a group of San Franciscans, including Leland Stanford and Charles Crocker, bought it and donated it to the city. It opened in 1879.

Hiking San Mateo - Golden Gate National Recreation Area (U.S. National Park Service)
The main entrance to Mori Point is located at Bradford Way in Pacifica. At this entrance you will find two accessible parking spaces and an accessible restroom. There is an accessible entrance to the left of the trailhead gate. Old Mori Road is relatively flat which makes for a nice, leisurely stroll. You will encounter lots of native vegetation and wildlife. The surface material is a compacted natural material. After about a ¼ mile to your left will be the entrance to the Lishumsha trail. You may choose to take this route which will provide more of a strenuous hike or you may choose to continue on Old Mori which becomes an elevated boardwalk.

Mountain lion cubs caught on remote camera are 'nice and fat' - latimes.com
The two 10-month-old mountain lion cubs caught by a remote camera feeding on a mule deer carcass in Malibu Creek State Park last week provided welcome relief to researchers who hadn't seen them since they were just 3 weeks old. Biologist Jeff Sikich with the National Park Service called the cubs, designated P-30 and P-28, "nice and fat." "Mom seems to be finding deer and prey for them," he said.Four years ago, "mom" was hailed by the Park Service as an unknown mountain lion discovered in the Hidden Valley area of the Santa Monica Mountains. The female lion was named P-13 and captured, collared and released by staff from the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. At the time, P-13 was thought to be at least 1 year old. The remote camera has captured more than 350 high-quality images of P-13 and her cubs as they fed on a mule deer last week in Malibu Creek State Park. The images of her offspring came from a remote camera at the feeding site. Sikich described the animals

U.S. seeks national recreation area status for San Gabriels - latimes.com
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar on Wednesday recommended designation of the San Gabriel River watershed and most of the San Gabriel Mountains as a national recreation area, making the popular playground eligible for additional law enforcement, interpretive signs, hiking trails, trash collection and other services. Salazar's long-awaited recommendation to Congress seeks to balance a crush of tourists with conservation. The designation would transform the 655,000-acre range, portions of the San Gabriel River and Rio Hondo corridors and Puente-Chino Hills into a unit of the National Park system co-managed by the National Park Service, federal officials said.
