Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 in Grabber Lime – St. Patrick's Day Special
Something tells us Dearborn won't need any luck of the Irish to sell these hi-po Mustangs.
The revived Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be offered in this deliciously obnoxious Grabber Lime exterior color.
Other bold colors will also be offered, including Twister Orange and Red Hot Metallic.
Ford is slowly releasing details on its preeminent pony car ahead of its Fall 2019 on-sale date.
Ford's upcoming Mustang Shelby GT500 needs no additional buzz. It made a splash at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this January and has been a topic of conversation among automotive journalists and car enthusiasts alike for far longer. But, with St. Patrick's Day approaching, the product planners at Ford couldn't help but show off the new mega-Mustang in a bright shade of Grabber Lime.

Retro-Inspired Grabber Lime Green Is Back for the Ford Mustang
As a person of Irish descent, I’m here to tell you that you shouldn’t care about Ford releasing a new green for the Mustang in mid-March because it is coming out “just in time” for St. Patrick’s Day—as if it weren’t planned months in advanced. I’m here to tell you you should care, because green cars are good, and they’re having a bit of a resurgence right now.
And this is a very good green. Ford calls it Grabber Lime and it’s based on a shade from the 1970s, though it has been updated for our modern tastes. This is an eye-catching shade to go across the whole lineup, especially when the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is wearing it. At least you’ll be able to creep by at 180 mph in style.
Apparently Ford is also releasing another vintage-inspired color, Twister Orange, which Ford wisely decided would not be great to release just in time for St. Patrick’s Day. No need to create an incident with a car color.

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Top Speed Will Be Limited to 180 MPH - The Drive
The 700-horsepower super-muscle car will apparently be restricted to better focus on quarter-mile runs and road courses.
Ford's most powerful Mustang ever, the 2020 Shelby GT500, looks to be a world-beater of all sorts on paper. A mountainous 700 horsepower produced by a new, supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 will supposedly rocket the muscle machine down the quarter-mile strip in under 11 seconds. On top of that, it'll have a trick seven-speed dual-clutch automatic perfect for getting the power down when you're hustling Hellcats and Camaro ZL1 drivers from a roll.
You'd better hope that run doesn't exceed 180 miles per hour, though, because Ford's placed an all-powerful speed limiter on the brutish 'Stang.
Hurrying the elephants out of the room: the Dodge Challenger Hellcat has a claimed top speed of 199 mph while the Camaro ZL1 nearly matches it at 198 mph. Not that this is all that relevant seeing as most will simply prowl city streets or the drag strip where you could never top out in the first place.

Ford: None of You Were Going to Do 180 MPH in a Shelby GT500 Anyway
News that the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500's top speed would max out at a limited 180 mph yesterday really seemed to bum people out, with some even saying the Fun Police had been involved in the decision. Assuming you could even find a place to go faster, we asked Ford why they won’t let you.
The answer is simple; where the hell are you going to go faster than 180 mph? Even illegally, and even on most race tracks, your options are extremely limited.
But yesterday, I reached out to Ford to find out what the actual limiting factor for the GT500's limited top speed was, and here’s what a spokesperson told me...

Ford's Most Powerful Mustang Shelby GT500 to Date - Top Speed Governed
The Shelby GT500 will deliver the goods in corners, not just a straight line.
The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be Ford's most powerful production car ever, but the automaker has been light on details about the forthcoming car.
We expect Ford's zero-to-6o-mph and quarter-mile claims to prove true, but we were taken aback by the information that the GT500 will have a governed top speed.
The GT500 goes on sale this summer.
Dearborn is still mum on nearly every critical specification of its new GT500 other than these: it is Mustang based. It will feature a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 cranking out at least 700 horsepower. And now, that this, the most powerful production car Ford has ever created, is governed to 180 mph.

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 May Only Go 180 MPH but Its Cooling System Looks Legit
When the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in January, we wrote that it would “Slay Hellcats And Camaros With At Least 700 HP.” Two months later, we still don’t have an exact power figure, but we do have borderline-pornographic images of both cooling system hardware and aerodynamic simulations. Prepare your souls.
Car and Driver and other automobile websites are reporting that the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be limited to a top speed of 180 MPH, and while I guess that’s interesting in that supercars tend to use top speed as a bragging right, I’m really more concerned with how this thing will handle on a track that isn’t straight.
And things that can really help in that environment are downforce and cooling—two areas linked in that they are a product of airflow (which, incidentally, is why at Fiat Chrysler, I used to work in a single department called “AeroThermal,” which dealt with both aerodynamics and powertrain cooling).

If You Can't Afford a Real 1967 Ford Mustang There's Always This Lego Version
Despite the less than subtle messages in the Lego movies, sometimes it’s totally okay to follow your highly-sophisticated interlocking brick system’s building instructions. Case in point: Lego’s new Creator Expert series 1960s-era Ford Mustang model which does a remarkably good job at recreating the curves of a now-iconic muscle car.
Lego seems hesitant to nail down an exact model year its 1,471-piece replica is based on (although the license plate says 1967) but there’s little doubt the company’s model makers took at least some inspiration from the iconic 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback that Steve McQueen drove through San Francisco in Bullitt. Lego’s chosen a blue paint paint job for its Mustang instead of green, finished with a pair of white racing stripes, but builders can further customize their tiny ride to match their muscle car tastes.

Lego Reveals 1967 Ford Mustang GT Fastback 1,470-Piece Customizable Set - The Drive
The completed 'Stang is more than a foot long and has cool customization pieces like a supercharger and multiple license plates.
Lego has revealed a new set from its "Creator" line modeled after a 1967 Ford Mustang GT fastback, complete with a scaled-down version of its carbureted 390 cubic-inch (6.4-liter) V-8.
This set is comprised of 1,470 pieces and features four elements never before cast by the famous brick company. When assembled, the Mustang stands almost four-inches-high, nearly six-inches-wide, and more than 13-inches-long.
Builders can have their Mustangs in any color, as long as that color is blue with white racing stripes. Individualizing one's own Mustang can be done with a plethora of optional parts, all of them performance-oriented. Plucking off the car's hood scoop allows a view of the V-8's air cleaner, which can be covered up by a hulking supercharger assembly that protrudes from the hole in the hood.

Lego Creator Makes a 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback Kit
The Lego Creator Ford Mustang kit includes 1471 pieces.
This 1970s-era Ford Mustang kit is customizable; there's a supercharger, front and rear spoilers, tail or side pipes, and even a nitrous-oxide tank.
A removable roof panel permits access to the attentively detailed interior.
The kit will be available directly from Lego stores or online, starting March 1.
Lego has been on tear in the past few years, working up both scale-model and actual-size reproductions of some pretty exotic hardware such as the Bugatti Chiron, the Aston Martin DB5, and the McLaren 720S. Now it has turned its sights to re-creating a decidedly American icon: the Ford Mustang.

Australia-Only 2019 Ford Mustang V8 Supercar Is the Right Type of Ridiculous - The Drive
Sure, the Aussies will miss the Ford Falcon, but what's not to love about a 600-horsepower, naturally aspirated V-8 in a Mustang?
Ford Australia revealed Tuesday its 2019 entry into Australia's iconic touring car race series: the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship, or V-8 Supercars to most of us.
The Ford Performance Mustang Supercar, as Ford calls it, is the successor to the retired Falcon Falcon FG X, whose last factory-supported Supercars race was the 2018 Newcastle 500, where it won. Ford of Australia ceased production of the Falcon in 2016, 46 years after the Falcon nameplate's retirement in North America, and elected to replace the Falcon's sedan body style with that of the Mustang.
Current Supercars Championship vehicles are all built on an identical base chassis and roll cage setup, though constructors are allowed to add make-specific bodywork and aero components. All cars competing in the series have homologated bodies, whose drag coefficients and downforce levels are as close to identical as possible. Weight must match or exceed 1,410 kilograms (3,109 pounds), at least 755 kilograms (1,664 pounds) of which must be over the front axle, where the engine is.

2017 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 – 40,000 Mile Evaluation
After over a year under its spell, we say goodbye to our voodoo child.
Say "voodoo" and people tend to think of pins stuck into dolls, animal sacrifice, and other dark rituals. But this ancient religion has a lighter side, a white magic believed to be capable of casting a spell so strong it can bind souls together for eternity.
We were entranced by our first exposure to the Mustang Shelby GT350's voodoo, both its literal and figurative varieties. The former is Ford's Voodoo V-8, a hand-built, flat-plane-crank 5.2-liter screamer that sets spines a-tingle with its 8250-rpm redline. The latter relates to the Shelby's otherworldly chassis balance and fluidity, the ease with which the GT350 tears up a mountain road or a racetrack, and its ability to then cover a few hundred miles home. It's as though Ford conjured a spell specifically for us.

2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt Track Test Review: McQueen Fan or No, a Special Edition Muscle Car Worth the Upcharge - The Drive
You can't say "Bullitt" without saying "Steve McQueen," but the real star here is Ford's 480-hp Coyote V-8.
As the Matchbox toys of the automotive world, American muscle cars are ripe for experimentation—or exploitation—in the form of special editions. Get it right, and you end up with a Plymouth Superbird, a future collectible and classic. Get it wrong, and you end up with a 1998 Corvette Indy Pace Car, a purple-and-yellow poseur with as much class as a Franklin Mint collector plate.
The 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt is no Superbird in terms of investment potential; not least because Ford will build many more over a two-year run than the mere 135 Hemi Superbirds produced in 1970. But kudos to Ford for offering the Bullitt exclusively as a fastback coupe (no convertible) with a six-speed manual transmission, a vote for authenticity over incremental sales.
Since no Bullitt review can last two sentences without dropping the words “Steve McQueen” and “iconic,” this Mustang’s backstory and provenance, it must be said, is pure marketing hokum: A tie-in with McQueen’s Bullitt, a forgettable 1968 movie with one unforgettable car chase in a fastback Mustang GT390. If Jeep decided to sell a Jurassic Park-edition Wrangler, it would amount to precisely the same thing, yet car fans would bare their teeth and roar for Jeep’s blood like so many T.rexes.

Here's What Happens When You Slap a Twin-Turbo Kit Onto a Voodoo Engine
We didn't think the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350's engine could get any more ferocious. Then we heard this 1350-horsepower beast.
Update 1/25/2018: This article has been updated with video of an even more extreme version of Fathouse Fabrication's twin-turbo Mustang Shelby GT350 setup, along with build pictures and a description of the modifications made to the car. Enjoy.
The 5.2-liter "Voodoo" V8 found in the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 is one of the most exotic engines you can currently buy. But if having a flat-plane crankshaft and an 8250-RPM redline just isn't enough for you, a company called Fathouse Fabrications of Martinsville, Indiana offers a twin turbo kit that puts out 1348 horsepower to the wheels.
Among the upgrades done to Fathouse's top-tier performance package for the GT350 Mustang include forged engine internals, a beefed-up twin-disc clutch, a Motec ECU, custom intake and exhaust piping, stronger axles, and a carbon fiber driveshaft. There's also an upgraded oil pump, a thicker intercooler, and three fuel pumps to handle all that extra power. The shop sent us a ton of pictures documenting its build process, including photos of the custom exhaust needed to fit the turbochargers, which are mounted next to the transmission under the car.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 - Same Supercharger as Corvette ZR1
Put down your fists; it's not as bad as it sounds.
There's an old saying in the muscle-car world. Although it's a tad bawdy to repeat verbatim here, the basic idea is that the protagonist would rather see his sister earning her living in a house of ill repute than see his brother driving an insert name of muscle car that is the subject of your derision here. That's just how deeply the battle lines in the Ford versus Chevy muscle-car wars were drawn back in the day (Mopar guys just hated everyone). But this time around, thanks largely to manufacturers' dependence on the supplier market for key components of their performance strategy, the modern muscle segment has become a bit incestuous.
The latest example of this shared genealogy is the 2.7-liter supercharger found riding atop the 5.2-liter V-8 in the brand spankin' new 2020 Ford Mustang GT500. It's supplied by the Eaton Corporation, and Ford tells us that the Roots-type supercharger's model designation is TVS R2650, which by all outward appearances and model numbers appears to be the same unit that sits atop the 6.2-liter LT5 V-8 found in the Corvette ZR1. While no one at Ford or Chevrolet is commenting, they didn't outright deny it, either. For the tiebreaker, we called Eaton, where a friendly type took our contact info and told us they'd "get back to us." A spokesperson called back later and informed us that "The GT500’s supercharger has the same base rotors as the Vette, but everything around it has been redesigned/customized for this application." Given that the rotors are the heart and soul of any supercharger, the redesign likely deals primarily with packaging and cooling concerns.

First 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 - Charity Auction
What better way to overpay for a car than for the benefit of a worthy cause, in this case the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation?
It has become a ritual of sorts in recent years for automakers to offer up for auction the first copy of a highly anticipated new model to benefit a charity. The car will bear a VIN in a low number, often #001, as is the case with the soon to be freshly minted 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 offered here, it's an opportunity for those with the means to score an instant collectible while applying a cold-cash compress to their ego without appearing too arrogant. After all, it's for charity, right?
When the car rolls across the block on Friday, January 18, at the 2019 Barrett-Jackson collector-car auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, it will be accompanied by both Edsel Ford II and Aaron Shelby, who will be leveraging their family legacies to prod the bidding audience into blowing their children's college funds.
The car, with its "700-plus" horsepower from a supercharged 5.2-liter V-8, will be delivered to the winning bidder in standard GT500 spec, although the buyer will have a choice of any of the available colors and options. Barrett-Jackson is quick to point out that 100 percent of the hammer price will go to help the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation find a cure. As traditions go, it's hard to think of a better way of separating well-heeled car fans from their cash.
