FACTORIE is a toolkit for deployable probabilistic modeling, implemented as a software library in Scala. It provides its users with a succinct language for creating relational factor graphs, estimating parameters and performing inference.

Permuation tests (also called randomization or re-randomization tests) have been around for a long time, but it took the advent of high-speed computers to make them practically available. They can be particularly useful when your data are sampled from unkown distributions, when sample sizes are small, or when outliers are present.

this is gonna be just a very quick follow-me kind-of-tutorial of something that a lot structural equation modelling (SEM) users know but that not a lot of people who deal with hierarchical linear (HLM) / multilevel (MLM) / mixed effects models know, which is that mixed effects models can be parameterized as strucutral equation models. it just requires a little bit of "trick coding" and a tad bit of imagination to conceptualise random effects as factors or 'latent variables'. in this post i am only going to talk about the case of longitudinal models, but nested random effects can also be parameterised as such.
