Live Review: Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators in New Jersey | Consequence of Sound
Setting the Stage: The Wellmont Theater has gone through many transformations in its 96 years of existence. First, as a performing arts venue, hosting vaudeville acts and traveling stage plays, the theater then became a movie house. It even hosted a black-hat wearing superstar from Hollywood — Charlie Chaplin. But for the past 10 years, the Wellmont has been one of the more popular concert venues in the shadow of New York City.
Situated a mere 12 miles due-east from Manhattan, Montclair feels a million miles away from the lower-East-side streets that Guns N’ Roses are seen walking on in their “Paradise City” video. But, that was a long time ago and the fans that once ran home from school to watch GN’R on Dial MTV and went to CBGBs to simply buy a t-shirt are now more than happy to stay in the suburbs and have their favorite musicians come to them. And that’s exactly what Slash ft. Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators did on Monday, October 1st, while out in support of their freshly released new album, Living the Dream.

0DAYROX ► Melodic Rock, AOR, Hard Rock, Prog, Classic Rock news: NAZARETH - Loud & Proud! Anthology Box Set [3-CD remastered] (2018)
While NAZARETH are recording a new album, BMG just released "Loud & Proud! Anthology Box Set [3-CD remastered]" that celebrates 50 years as a band of those hard rocking Scots.
The set offers a snapshot journey through the band’s five-decade career with key tracks chosen from each of their studio albums.
Nazareth were formed in the late 60′s, from the ballroom cover band The Shaddettes, and the original line-up of vocalist Dan McCafferty, guitarist Manny Charlton, bassist Pete Agnew and drummer Darrell Sweet turned professional at the turn of the '70s, with their eponymous debut following shortly after.
The Nazareth sound was a hard bluesy rock with Dan’s whisky-soaked gravelly vocals. Their breakthrough, following a tour with Deep Purple, was the Roger Glover produced Razamanaz that spawned the hit singles 'Bad Bad Boy' and 'Broken Down Angel'.
Later covers of 'Love Hurts' and 'This Flight Tonight' would also be era defining.

0DAYROX ► Melodic Rock, AOR, Hard Rock, Prog, Classic Rock news: CINDERELLA - The Mercury Years [5-CD Box Set remastered] (2018)
Caroline Records / BMG just released a CINDERELLA 5-CD box set titled "The Mercury Years" which brings together all four of the band’s studio albums with the label: 1986’s Night Songs, 1988’s Long Cold Winter, 1990’s Heartbreak Station and 1994’s Still Climbing, plus a bonus disc with hard to find B-sides and Live tracks.
The whole thing has been remastered by Andy Pearce from the Rock Candy Records headquarters.
The collection has been put together in collaboration with Cinderella vocalist and guitarist Tom Keifer, housed in a clamshell box.
It contains a 16-page booklet featuring a new interview with Keifer by journalist Malcolm Dome (Rock Candy Records), where they discuss the band's history and legacy.
So, this is a Rock Candy Records product, and while we have featured here at 0dayrox a remaster from some of these essential Cinderella albums, this Box is must listen.
You get all the B-side singles from Cinderella's golden years, but of special interest as well, there's the band's 4th excellent (and underrated) album "Still Climbing" remastered for the first time.
For U$D 21, this "The Mercury Years" Box Set is a A MUST HAVE

0DAYROX ► Melodic Rock, AOR, Hard Rock, Prog, Classic Rock news: ANGEL - The Casablanca Years [7-CD Box remastered] (2018)
Caroline Records just released an extensive, mammoth seven-disc Box Set celebrating legendary, Washington DC-bred glam/rock outfit ANGEL. Entitled "Angel: The Casablanca Years", the band-approved Box includes all the complete discography with the label, remastered, plus a bonus disc 'Rarities' with songs available for the first time on CD.
Formed in Washington DC in the mid '70s, Angel were allegedly discovered playing in a nightclub by bassist Gene Simmons, and subsequently signed Kiss’ then label Casablanca.
A big lush sound and the band dressed in white, they stood out in more ways than one. And their label has rotational symmetry too – it reads the same upside down.
The originally line-up comprised vocalist Frank DiMino, guitarist Punky Meadows, bassist Mickie Jones, drummer Barry Brandt and keyboard player Gregg Giuffria.
The original eponymous debut had some progressive roots too. The mix of acoustic and electric guitars with layered keyboards courtesy of Giuffria and even occasional flute make for a big sound, and the big vocals have range and power that overlay the strings well.

0DAYROX ► Melodic Rock, AOR, Hard Rock, Prog, Classic Rock news: AEROSMITH - Get Your Wings [Blu-Spec CD2 remastered]
Reaching the end with the requested best sounding-reissue AEROSMITH albums, especially from the first era, here's the band's second album "Get Your Wings", pretty improved in sound with this remastered Japanese Blu-Spec CD2 release.
In 1973, Aerosmith released its debut album to little fanfare. It's a raw, rocking album, but the band had been somewhat nervous recording this first effort, with vocalist Steven Tyler going so far to alter his singing voice, and they had very little chemistry with producer Adrian Barber.
So Aerosmith and the recording label wanted a new approach.
By the time they began recording "Get Your Wings", producer Jack Douglas had agreed to work with the band, beginning a long and successful studio collaboration that continued with the band's stardom.
According to Perry, Columbia had wanted the band to work with Bob Ezrin, who was working with Alice Cooper. It was Ezrin who introduced the band to Douglas.

0DAYROX ► Melodic Rock, AOR, Hard Rock, Prog, Classic Rock news: AEROSMITH - Live! Bootleg [Blu-Spec CD2 remastered]
One of you asked for the best sounding-reissue AEROSMITH albums, especially from the first era. Now here's "Live! Bootleg", recorded with the band at their peak, pretty improved in this remastered Japanese Blu-Spec CD2 release.
Since Aerosmith had become one of America's premier rock n' roll concert attractions by 1978, it was only natural that an in-concert collection was issued that year, the double album, "Live! Bootleg".
Unlike other live albums at the time, it's obvious that not a lot of overdubbing was involved to fix up the tracks, which results in a refreshingly authentic representation of Aerosmith at the group's most drugged-out and rocking.
All of the performances were taken from Tyler and company's 1977-1978 U.S. tour (with the exception of a couple from 1973), while the album's packaging and title were a joke on all the poor-sounding, unauthorized live recordings that were in circulation at the time.

0DAYROX ► Melodic Rock, AOR, Hard Rock, Prog, Classic Rock news: AEROSMITH - Aerosmith [Blu-Spec CD2 remastered]
One of you asked for the best sounding-reissue AEROSMITH albums, especially from the first era. Here's the band's very first, self-titled debut "Aerosmith", pretty improved in sound with this remastered Japanese Blu-Spec CD2 release.
Aerosmith emerged in America as a hard rock alternative in a music sea of glam rock and prog rock of the first half of the Seventies. Their impressive self-titled debut "Aerosmith" album doesn’t contain anything particularly innovative, but brought the hard rockin' blood to the American scene.
"Aerosmith" is bloozy -- the riffs don't swing, they slide. They borrow liberally from Led Zeppelin's hybridization of Chess and Sun riffs without ever sounding much like Zep. They are never as British as Zeppelin -- they lack the delicate folky preciousness, they lack the obsession with blues authenticity, they lack the larger-than-life persona of so many Brit bands.

0DAYROX ► Melodic Rock, AOR, Hard Rock, Prog, Classic Rock news: AEROSMITH - Toys In The Attic [remastered SACD Gold Disc] Out Of Print
And here's more requests... one of you asked for the best sounding-reissue AEROSMITH albums, especially from the first era. Now we have here the classic "Toys In The Attic", and after listening to several version / releases, this special remastered limited edition on SACD Gold Disc is the winner.
"Toys In The Attic" is where Aerosmith really tick all the right boxes, something that would be augmented even more with the excellent follow up 'Rocks'.
After nearly getting off the ground with previous LP 'Get Your Wings', Aerosmith finally perfected their mix of Stonesy raunch and Zeppelin-esque riffing with their third album, "Toys in the Attic". The success of the LP derives from a combination of an increased sense of songwriting skills and purpose.

0DAYROX ► Melodic Rock, AOR, Hard Rock, Prog, Classic Rock news: AEROSMITH - Draw The Line [Blu-Spec CD2 remastered]
One of you asked for the best sounding-reissue AEROSMITH albums, especially from the first era. Now here's "Draw The Line", and I think this recent Japanese release on Blu-Spec CD2, remastered, is the best you can get.
In 1977, Aerosmith's released their fifth album "Draw The Line". The title track and "Kings and Queens" are among my favorite Aerosmith songs ever. Both charted and the album went on to sell two million copies.
The band toured extensively in support of the album, but drug abuse and the fast-paced life of touring and recording began affecting their performances. Tyler and Perry became known as "the Toxic Twins" due to their notorious abuse of drugs on and off the stage.

One of you asked for the best sounding-reissue AEROSMITH albums, especially from the first era. Now here's the classic "Rocks", and after listening to several version / releases, this remastered Japanese Blu-Spec CD2 is the one to get.
With their fourth studio album titled "Rocks", Aerosmith hit their stride, for many, their finest moment.
The album was a commercial success, charting three singles on the Billboard Hot 100, two of which reached the Top 40 ("Back in the Saddle" and "Last Child"). "Rocks" was one of the first albums in the music business to ship platinum when it was released, and has since gone quadruple platinum.

0DAYROX ► Melodic Rock, AOR, Hard Rock, Prog, Classic Rock news: SARAYA - Saraya [Bad Reputation Records remaster +4]
French reissue label Bad Reputation has been doing a great job releasing 'Collector Series / Remastered with Bonus', with the main attraction being the addition of a bonus tracks or bonus disc, making these reissues the 'definitive expanded versions'. In a Rock Candy Records fashion, these are official remasters in arrangement with the original recording companies.
SARAYA's self-titled album - one of the finest female fronted Melodic Hard Rock / AOR albums from the '80s - was reissued by the label with 4 bonus tracks.
Founded in 1987 by by raven vocalist Sandi Saraya and keyboardist Gregg Munier (who passed away in 2006), and originally known as Alsace Lorraine (the title of a short instrumental on the album), the line-up expanded to include guitarist Tony Rey aka Teddy Bruno (the original axeman in Danger Danger), bassist Gary Taylor and drummer Chuck Bonfante.
All 3 had been playing with ex Foreigner contributor and Spys Al Greenwood in diverse projects, while previously Rey and Bonfante were members of the Joe Lynn Turner Band.

The Combination: Baby Animals, “Painless” (1991) |
In the past I’ve lamented the quick passing of a moment of peak interest in a song. Like on an actual mountain peak, you have to face the fact that there’s scarcely anything there and 99% of your time is spent building up to it or dimly remembering it.
There’s an obvious amelioration of the hook lover’s predicament, though: instead of one lonely hook, there could be a predictable series of hooks one right after another, like a boxing combination–a long-lasting knockout.
The peak of “Painless” by Baby Animals is the clear-out moment in the bridge for Suze DeMarchi to yell, “And I need that like a hole in the head!” at 2:15.

0DAYROX ► Melodic Rock, AOR, Hard Rock, Prog, Classic Rock news: HOUSE OF LORDS - The Unreleased & The Bonus Tracks - 0dayrox exclusive
As requested, here's some unreleased HOUSE OF LORDS material.
After a long hiatus, leader James Christian started to plan the return of the band at the beginning of the new Millennium. This was materialized with the album The Power And The Myth released in 2004, a record with more progressive orientation that disappointed first time fans.
In my book, The Power And The Myth is a very good album, mature and with superb musicianship. It isn't the bombastic melodic hard rock the band was previously known for, but a really solid and interesting evolution in musical terms.
However, the genesis of the album, or better, the HOL return, was in fact inspired by the sound & style of its origins, and the proof are these demos recorded around 2001, later discarded.

Watch Greta Van Fleet’s “When the Curtain Falls” Video | Music News | Consequence of Sound
The official video for the rockers' lead single off their forthcoming debut album
With all the comparisons to Led Zeppelin, it was only a matter of time before Greta Van Fleet made their own The Song Remains the Same. With the release of the Michigan rockers’ video for “When the Curtain Falls”, the wait is already over.
Part performance clip, part mystical mini sci-fi epic, this new official music video follows up a vertical video the band released earlier this month. The video finds the band rocking out in the desert as some glowing-eyed worshippers of celestial events like solar eclipses and the Northern Lights get closer and closer to enlightenment. Or doomsday. Or something. The only thing missing is footage of frontman Josh Kiszka battling his enemies with a broadsword.

Angel ‘Casablanca Years’ 7-CD Box Set Due | Best Classic Bands
On Aug. 31, Caroline/UMe will release Angel: The Casablanca Years, a seven-CD boxed set featuring the Washington, D.C.-bred glam/rock outfit’s six albums that were released on Neil Bogart’s Casablanca Records label. In addition, a seventh disc that contains mono mixes, single edits, soundtrack contributions, and other rarities is included in the set. Angel expert Dave Reynolds contributes liner notes to the box’s included 28-page booklet, which also features rare photos and other memorabilia.
Angel was discovered in a nightclub by Gene Simmons of Kiss. Angel, says a press release, “was also known for their androgynous look and dressing all in white, a pure yin-yang contrast to Kiss’ own all-black clothing and elaborate stage outfits.” In 1975, the glam-rockers were signed to the home label for Kiss, Casablanca Records, ultimately releasing six albums (five studio, one live) uninterrupted between 1975-80 that mixed glam, hard rock and “pure unadulterated fist-pumping melodic singalongs.”

Angel: Seven Cd Retrospective Celebrating Casablanca Years To Be Made Available In August - Blabbermouth.net
On August 31, Caroline/UMe will salute the core output of one of the most underrated rock bands of the 1970s with "Angel: The Casablanca Years". This ascendant, band-approved seven-CD box set features the Washington, D.C.-bred glam/rock outfit's six albums that were released on Neil Bogart's legendary Casablanca Records label, in addition to a seventh disc that contains mono mixes, single edits, soundtrack contributions, and other rarities. ANGEL expert Dave Reynolds contributes insightful liner notes to the box set's included 28-page booklet, which also features rare photos and other memorabilia.
ANGEL was discovered in a nightclub by none other than Gene Simmons of KISS, a man who had (and still has) a knack for finding and nurturing talent. ANGEL was also known for their androgynous look and dressing all in white, a pure yin-yang contrast to KISS's own all-black clothing and elaborate stage outfits. In 1975, the glam-rockers were signed to the home label for KISS, Casablanca Records, ultimately releasing six albums (five studio, one live) uninterrupted between 1975-80 that mixed the best elements of glam, hard rock, and pure unadulterated fist-pumping melodic singalongs.
