MystSaphyr: Team TARDIS 1975
REC: This is such a fun and cute drawing of the three of them. The slightly naivistic style with its rounded contours and soft shading gives it a very fitting 1970s feel. And I love the feeling of comradeship and closeness you get from their body language. (2015-03-23)

REC: This is such a fun drawing of the Fourth Doctor. It's very much in character. So much in fact that it took me quite a while to realise what else it was reminding me of. It was K9's unusual tail that gave it away in the end :-) (2015-03-15)

2015-01-02: Doctor Who: a guide for the overwhelmed: part 2: the 1970s by londonkds
The Letts-Dicks-Pertwee era
1970 saw a new Doctor, played by Jon Pertwee, a new showrunning team, Barry Letts and Terrance Dicks, the show being made in colour for the first time, and an entirely new concept. The Doctor was now forcibly confined to twentieth-century Earth after the momentous events of the last Troughton story, and working as the token alien (although this was a deep secret) of a mostly-benevolent military Men in Black organisation called UNIT, the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce.
Pertwee was a very tall, gawky, big-nosed actor with prematurely white hair, who due to his odd appearance, comic timing, and talent for funny voices had been stereotyped as a comedian, and cast by Letts and Dicks as such. However, it turned out that his true dream was to play James Bond, and Letts and Dicks let him do it. Three was the purest action hero of all the Doctors, driving an assortment of eccentric but fast land, sea and air vehicles, and beating up lots of villainous henchmen with Venusian Akido. This period saw the show with probably its biggest budget in real terms of the whole 1963-89 era, and the action scenes are pretty good by 1970s TV show standards.

Aka the John Nathan-Turner era, after the producer for all of it. JN-T, as he liked to be called, is a hugely polarising figure among fans, largely because the show ended during his tenure. This was only partly his fault, however, as the leadership of the BBC at the time were determined to finish the show off, as they thought that the BBC should be on one hand too artistically respectable, and on the other hand too hip, to make cheap crappy SF for an audience of pathetic semi-autistic basement dwellers. I'm not being paranoid, later interviews have made it quite clear those were the thought processes, although they were expressed in more mealy-mouthed language. (Also, I'm including myself under "pathetic semi-autistic basement dwellers", by their lights.)
However, the big thing about JN-T is that, with a very few exceptions, he was primarily a marketing man and accountant (not an insult, he was good at both), and left the actual artistic content of the show to his script editors. Hence, his period on the show actually splits into three very distinct eras.

Kumama: Adventures In Time 10
REC: The whole series 'Adventures in Time' by this artist is wonderful but this is one of my absolute favourites. I love the way the artist has captured the light and colouring and mood of the scene on Tatooine. The two suns sinking into the desert horizon, the luminosity of the sky, Luke standing on the crater rim. The TARDIS out in the desert fits so perfectly into the scene you hardly notice it's there. Draculasaurus: 4 at the console
REC: The side of the Fourth Doctor you see most of in fanart is the madcap, joking one. This work shows us a rare glimpse of the moody, sombre side he occasionally showed us during the last couple of seasons. That's only one of the reasons why I like it so much however. Another reason is the way the colouring and brushwork accentuates the melancholic mood, and yet another how skillfully the artist depicts the consol room with just a few brush strokes. (2013-05-23)

REC: All the 'Adventures In Time' works by this artist are great but it was this one I first noticed and fell for. It's such a charming and subtle little scene.
