Jessica Jones and The Punisher Cancelled at Netflix | TV News | Consequence of Sound
The third (and now final) season of Jessica Jones will air as the last Netflix release
In the past few months, the Netflix arm of Marvel’s film and TV empire has clearly been winding things down. Whether it’s because of Disney’s forthcoming streaming service, or simply because the pop culture mega-conglomerate is trying to bring all of its properties in-house from now on, Netflix previously announced that Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist have all been cancelled.
Now the last dominoes have fallen, as Deadline reports that The Punisher and Jessica Jones have been axed. The former leaves just after its second season debuted on the streaming service, while the latter will air its already completed third season before ending its run. There’s no current release date for the final season of Jessica Jones, but it will mark the conclusion of a five-year run on Netflix for the far more adult side of Marvel’s output.

Netflix makes it official, canceling Punisher and Jessica Jones | Ars Technica
Color us not surprised, but we're still gonna miss all our favorite Defenders.
It was only a matter of time, but today Netflix finally made it official, announcing the cancelation of its two remaining Marvel Defenders series, The Punisher and Jessica Jones. The latter's third season hasn't even aired yet, although Deadline Hollywood reports that Netflix will air season 3 as planned. Nobody who has followed the axing of Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Daredevil over the last few months was expecting The Punisher to get a third season, even though season 2 was an under-appreciated gem.
Punisher star Jon Bernthal—who is set to join New Line’s The Sopranos prequel feature—gave a fitting farewell on Instagram: "To all who have served. All who know loss. All who love and understand Frank and his pain. It has been an honor to walk in his boots. I’m endlessly grateful to the comic fans and the men and women of the Armed Services and law enforcement community who Frank means so much to. Thank you to the USMC and all the wonderful soldiers who trained me. Go Hard. Be safe."
UPDATE: Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter weighs in with her own Instagram post: a pic of the table read for the season 3 finale airing later this year. "I love these people to the moon and back," she wrote. "It has been a dream to play Jessica alongside my amazing cast and the best crew in the business for these past five years. I am so grateful for every second of it. We have THE BEST fans. You guys mean the world to me and I appreciate you beyond words. The final season ... is coming later this year and I am proud of how we complete JJ’s journey."

Marvel Releases Official MCU Timeline
After waiting nearly a decade for an official timeline of sorts, it appears fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are getting their wish — an official timeline from Marvel Studios is on the way.
The soon-to-be-released Marvel: The First Ten Years sourcebook details the year each of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films takes place. The reported timeline does clear up some confusion and, in fact, does confirm the controversial title card in Spider-Man: Homecoming was inaccurate.
The current MCU movies, and the years in which they take place, are as follows:
1943-1945: Captain America: The First Avenger
2010: Iron Man
2011: Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor
2012: The Avengers: Iron Man 3
2013: Thor: The Dark World
2014: Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
2015: Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ant-Man
2016: Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming
2016-2017: Doctor Strange
2017: Black Panther, Thor Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War
The first thing fans will notice is the complete absence of any Marvel Cinematic Universe shows from the timeline, even when shows like Agents of SHIELD reference the events of Avengers: Infinity War in the closing episode of season five.

MCU Timeline: Watch every Marvel movie and show in the perfect order - CNET
Every MCU property currently airing or announced -- and the absolute ideal order for watching them -- so you can catch up before 2019's big changes.
You've probably seen most of Marvel's films, but what about the TV shows?
If you're like me, that is to say a continuity junkie, timelines are very important to you -- but timelines in the world of comics and movies can be more than a little confusing.
Editors' note, Nov. 19, 2018: This week, Marvel has unveiled its own "official" timeline of MCU films. It's interesting, but mostly we think it just proves what we started almost 5 years ago. (Keep in mind we also slot in the TV shows, hence why ours is a beast.)
We've created a newsletter based around all things Marvel for which you can sign-up at this link!
As we get closer to "Captain Marvel" and "Avengers 4," we'll update the timeline once again in 2019 so stay tuned for that. And if you're looking to stream some MCU movies, we can help. Think you've found a mistake? Let us know in the comments!
So to either help you fill in the gaps before "Avengers: Infinity War," to (or after that Avengers post-credit scene) just watch all the shows for fun, or even merely try to impress your friends, we've created a timeline of Marvel's Phase 1, 2, 3, 4 (and maybe beyond tbh) properties in the perfect viewing order.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe, as it's called, also sometimes includes connected properties such as movie tie-in comics or shorts. Here we've left out smaller properties and stuck to the big two: films in red, shows in black.

The bloodbath continues: Netflix cancels Daredevil after three seasons | Ars Technica
It's the third Defenders series to find itself on the chopping block this fall.
The hits just keep coming for the various Defenders series. Per Deadline Hollywood, Netflix announced this evening that it has canceled Daredevil, just weeks after the show concluded its critically acclaimed third season. This news shouldn't be too surprising, but this one is a particularly tough blow for fans.
Clearly Netflix is cleaning house, since this follows surprise cancellations in October of Iron Fist and Luke Cage. That just leaves Jessica Jones and The Punisher on Netflex's roster of Defenders. Both have new seasons in the pipeline that are currently slated to air on Netflix as planned, according to Deadline's sources. But they will, in all likelihood, be on the chopping block eventually as well.
“The Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”
All this further fuels speculation that Disney/Marvel may resurrect all the cancelled series when it launches its new streaming service. Indeed, the Netflix statement hints as much.
The company told Deadline:
Marvel's Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show's last and final season and although it's painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We're thankful to showrunner Erik Oleson, the show's writers, stellar crew and incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we're grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.

Best Revenge Is Your Paper by <user name="laiqualaurelote" site="AO3">
<cite>“When did you know? That you would do these things for me?”

Frank considers this for a while. “Can’t be sure exactly. After the Blacksmith, but before the river. But I knew because it began to hurt whenever I saw you. It’s like Bob Dylan said, you know - ‘Everything about you is bringing me misery’. That’s how you know.”

“Is that what I do?” Karen asks lightly. “Bring you misery?”

“Sure,” says Frank. “Like the way you’re looking at me now. It’s all kinds of hurt inside.”

The hard clench in her chest every time she catches his eye; the times he wakes up screaming at 3am. All their shared past; worse, the pasts they do not share. To love someone, she is coming to learn, is to constantly be reminded of all the ways you could lose them. “Sounds awful,” she says, fingers brushing over his knuckles.

“It is what it is.” He tucks a stray strand of her hair behind her ear, then kisses her on the forehead. “But that’s how you know you’re still alive.”</cite> Really great look at Karen and how she puts her life together and how Frank (and Foggy and Matt) fits into it. (also, as an aside, I really want that Punisher/John Wick dogwalkers crossover AU now.)

In a shocking move, Netflix cancels Marvel’s Iron Fist after two seasons | Ars Technica
After a much-improved second season, the series was poised for a strong season 3
We here at Ars were quite pleased with the vastly improved second season of Iron Fist, arguably the least popular of all the Netflix Defenders series. The writing and fight choreography were better in season 2, the characters and their relations were more fully developed, and it had a thematically interesting premise in its exploration of the nature of power. Plus it ended with one hell of a plot twist.
So we were looking forward to how the writers built on all that in season 3. Alas, Netflix has abruptly canceled the series, informing the cast just a few hours after the odd decision, Deadline reports. It's the first time the axe has fallen for one of the Netflix Defenders series.
Here is the joint statement from Netflix and Marvel in full:
Marvel's Iron Fist will not return for a third season on Netflix. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is proud of the series and grateful for all of the hard work from our incredible cast, crew and showrunners. We're thankful to the fans who have watched these two seasons, and for the partnership we've shared on this series. While the series on Netflix has ended, the immortal Iron Fist will live on.
